It's probably not a good example because of what happened in the race, but ultimately it's better to find the limit in practice rather than the race. I think Senna has done a fairly decent job this season. He could just do with getting a big result at some point.

Can't really remember a practice session that's been a total wreckfest, Monaco excepted.
Until recent years you'd be guaranteed 3 or 4 crashes in Monaco practice, usually Minardis/Jordans etc

These days cars are usually within their limits until the final 10 mins or so, even then with tarmac runoffs etc, huge wrecks happen about 3 or 4 times a year.

What's the biggest crash that's ever happened in a practice session?
That Mexican crash where the car hits pit wall, rolls and then lands on its side? :?

I think FP3 here last year we had De La Rosa, Kobayashi & Custard in the wall.

I think also the drivers on the whole are better than they used to be. The midfield is stronger, even the guys at the back are very good drivers.

Senna's problem so far has been one lap pace. If he can find a few tenths to get closer to Pastor, it'll make his races far simpler.

That was Alliott, I think. Senna also rolled in a Mexico practice session, and the 2 Larrousse cars were destroyed there as well. Warwick and Bernard have rolled in practice sessions at Hockenheim. Alex Caffi at Monaco? I'm sure there's lots of examples. I guess now we just have safer tracks, easier cars to drive, maybe even better driving standards across the whole grid?

Senna had an awful day, off all over the place. I think Pastor's performance has put pressure on him, so he naturally needs to respond. Bruno vs Bottas for 2013 seems to be the universal view. One good result will change everything, as ever.

Oh absolutely... because Williams will win points and F1 measures success on practice days right?

Sorry, I'm not a dipshit, I know that. But totalling your car in practice never helps with confidence & preparation. Its not just the crash but he was all over the place in FP1 too. I don't think he has much of a connection with the car this weekend. I'm not calling for his head, just saying that it's a sign of a little bit of pressure showing.

No-one's calling anyone a dipshit but I disagree with the theory that as soon as a driver has a poor day, has a crash, then they are immediately or clearly under pressure. It's fair to say that this won't help his or the team's preparations but as to the actual cause we can only guess. For all we know Williams put Senna on a very very different programme to Maldonado that made the car a lot more difficult to drive. Again, that's just a guess.

Judging by some tweets it looks as though the world is ending in Montreal

The FIA has delayed the press conference because of the rain.

Apparently the press conference room is starting to get water in it. Well, it is a tent after all.

I just managed to escape the track, that monsoon was ridiculous. Got tons of pictures, lots of good f1 action, but as the Ferrari practice started the heavens opened and everyone fled for cover, the gusts of wind and lightning were insane too. I did want rain for Sunday but I think I've had my share for now...

 Touché.

I don't think we would have had any running in those conditions Phil ;)

Hope it doesn't rain like that on Sunday.
