They earned the choice to do that by winning a segment. It's not enthralling but totally fair.



NASCAR has to take the blame for this one. All their efforts to make the first four segments exciting (which actually worked) resulted in turning the last segment into a predictable procession.

Agreed. The allstar race used to be the only place other than daytona/talladega to see a big one each year.

Was afraid that's how it would go. You take the fastest car on the track, the leader of segment one, and put him at the front at the end, that's what you get.

As for the "sandbagging" that's on NASCAR, not the teams themselves, for placing each segment leader back at the front. They have zero motivation to risk their equipment racing for a position they are already guaranteed to get back at the end of the night.
