Maybe since Vergne's car was damaged and potentially crashing out or dropping debris, a yellow/white would have been good.

I see white more appropriate at pit entry and backmarkers or slow laps, not after an accident with crippled car

Yes, remembering that train ahead the three leaders last year just before Sutil/Hamilton/Petrov/Alguersuari accident. That came from nowhere.
