Graham Rahal's Honda went Poof... If I were Honda, I'd be getting ready to make a new advert.....

They're faster in traffic than by themselves. That is so not Indy.

I think its too early to be saying what the car will do in traffic or that were not going to see much passing.

Afterall people were saying the same thing Pre-Season yet I think we have seen 4 good races which have all featured some good racing & a lot of good overtaking.

I've been watching practice for the last 15 minutes. The cars seem fine in traffic and there's tons of passing. I just think it's lame that they're so slow and draggy that they actually speed up in traffic. Even the last car didn't have that problem (at Indy).

I don't know of any racing car which would be slower when slipstreaming or being slipstreamed though.

Of course it's faster on the straights, but the nature of the corners at Indy have typically made for slower speeds in traffic, and slower overall lap speeds.

Judging from Newgarden's quote in today's Autosport article, it seems everyone is still working on race setups. So I very well may be wrong in assessing the car's performance and behavior.

Well of course. This car has had very little testing on ovals and it is still very early days. Give it a chance before panicking and being judgemental.

No-one wants a boring race but be realistic, the last car was developed over many many years by many many teams and drivers. This is a new car with limited running and yet the (road) races we've seen so far have all been good, despite everyone's pre-season premature criticism.

Whose to say that despite delivering slower average speeds than the old car, the racing might still be better?

Love the fact that Tim Richmond was stuck in there on a program list full of Indy 500 races and documentaries about IndyCar drivers.

Unless I'm missing something here.

1980 Rookie Of The Year, but he never ran another 500 until his family forced him into stock cars. Well, they had to fill the TV schedule with something, and it's a good docu.

Initially Newgarden and Hildebrand were running 219.9's and 219.4's alone with no tow. If they're still in race mode that's pretty impressive numbers. Or maybe they are looking towards qualifying and starting to trim the car out and see what they can achieve. If they're getting up to 220 alone before trimming that's awesome. Squeeze out a 221 or so with the low drag setup and then add another 50hp we could see 226-228mph. Hell if they decide to draft a little in that morning session or on Fast Friday we could see 230mph in a tow. I'm looking forward to heading down on saturday to see these new cars in action!

HVM are in serious trouble with Lotus. No oval tests, engines that suck, they aren't doing to much practice at Indy :(

The last CART race that I see him listed for was the first 1980 Michigan race where apparently he had a spectacular crash. Possibly that had something to do with things, too...
