But if it would help the speedway in some way, we have the equipment and we'd take a look at it under the right circumstance. I think 33 cars at Indianapolis, in the past, there were times we didn't have enough cars to fill the field and teams stepped up and ran extra cars. Nothing new. The issue is just the availability of hardware."

I bet quite a few Lotus teams could sign that...

Jean Alesi will turn his first laps at Indianapolis Motor Speedway tomorrow after Lotus confirmed that it is backing the ex-Formula 1 driver's late entry into the Indy 500 with the Fan Force United team.

The 47-year-old will run at tomorrow's Rookie Orientation test in preparation for his first-ever oval race at the 500 in three weeks.

He was originally expected to contest the race with Newman Haas before the team withdrew its entry, but says that he is looking forward to working with Fan Force, which is stepping up from Indy Lights.

"We've been talking about this race for a long time, and trying to find the right team to go with," Alesi said. "I'm very happy to be joining Fan Force United.

"Lotus believe it's the right place for me to be, and I trust the team completely and am sure we will do a super job. I did a seat-fitting on Monday and from now onwards I'll concentrate on preparing for the race ahead of the other drivers getting out there."

Alesi said that he has spent two days in the Dallara simulator in preparation for his Indy appearance and believes that the lateness of his deal will not prevent him from being able to get up to speed.

"Dallara's simulator is an incredibly sophisticated bit of kit on which I have learned so much about oval techniques and set-up," he said. " So I feel ready for the Indy 500, but also I am very happy to be doing the rookie test on May 10 ahead of the real practice.

"This will give me time to gain confidence and the feeling for the car and the track. The race is now just three weeks away, and we're going to be working flat out up to that date. I can't wait."

A Lotus statement explained that its focus on its full-time IndyCar teams had prevented it from finalising Alesi's drive sooner.

"Lotus had to concentrate its efforts on its existing teams first and foremost before identifying the right opportunity for Jean, in both sporting and financial terms," it said.

Alesi's car will carry the same black and gold livery used by most of the other Lotus- powered cars so far this season.

ummmmmm I think Alesi might be about to make a complete fool of himself

Twenty years ago we had one of the most memorable Indy 500 of all times.

The race was so spectacular and talked about that a highlights were shown even in Finnish television. That's also my first taste of the Indy. Now it's THE race of the year for me.

Lap records were broken in qualifying. Nelson Piquet broke his feet. Cold weather played a big part in the race. Roberto Guerrero made his infamous mistake. Jeff Andretti was badly injured in T4 crash after his tyre came off. Spectacular finish.

The ABC Intro (with the authentic Delta Force theme!)

Legends of the Brickyard review

warning! Jovy Marcelo's fatal crash is shown around 7:00 mark.

What's the most memorable Indy 500 for you? :)

1992 for me as well. Had watched a lot of the 89-91 races but 92 was the first time I watched from start to finish. What a race. Still have the VHS

The one last year was so heartbreaking that it has to be mentioned.

They talk about it each year. The track, she has a say in the winner each and every year.... Last year, looking back, she made one of the most poignant calls to date...

I only really started watching a few years ago, so it has to be 2011. The race wasn't fantastic, but then it looked as if the young American kid would win.

Then bam, no.

Wheldon's victory, kinda fate really. The team radio at the end sticks with me.

I can remember the entire last lap commentary then the radio almost to the word.. It was one of the most dramtic victories of all time, and then, after Vegas, it took a whole new meaning.

Sorry Lewis, it was More Dramatic than your "Is That Glock?" moment

I think it's 12 noon local, so that makes it 6pm UK and 7pm Euro time.

6 hours difference from Indy to Europe.

Btw: Track activity should start in less than 1 hour.
Any streams?

Monaco in the morning, Indy in the afternoon, and Charlotte in the evening.

The ideal raceday for me. :flag:

I'm orgonising a get together for anyone in the West Midlands area of Birmingham for the race. A Couple of my iRacing friends are coming, and should be fun!

Brazil wasn't live on RTL7, they said it was but it was on a 1 hour delay. ;)

Will there be any streams for Indy practice? Rookie orientation is today but can't find a stream on the indycar site.
