Apparently the protest is 100,000 strong.

That's funny, because if you combine the crowds from every GP held in Bahrain and multiply it by three, it's still only half of that.

My mistake. So it's as much as half of that then.

One thing I wonder is whether the Crown Prince has scored a massive own goal.

He wanted F1 to return to Bahrain in order for the world to see how they are dealing with the problems. Instead, we have a team caught up in protests and media reporting largely on the side of the protesters. Bahrain is the main story on BBC, ITV and Sky News.

Indeed. Bahrain has attracted the media spolight for their issues because of F1. There are many other countries with issues due to Arab Spring and its developments that receive such an attention.

We've had demonstrations in Egypt today that are not receiving the same attention, for example.

In Brazil it's a police and crime issue. In Bahrain it's a political and humanitarian one.

Look at it in terms of someone who has to be there from their team, they don't give a shit if it's protesting about civil war or gang-related crime, still going to make you nervous and compromise your safety.

In Brazil it's a safety issue. In Bahrain it's a safety issue. I am not talking about political statements or human rights abuses here, I am looking at them in terms of safety for those who have to attend, and I am saying that the two are on parallel ground.

BTW, the Button issue in 2010 was pure retardation from the safety staff McLaren had hired. The guys decided to simulate an attempt robbery to show their skills to the guys from McLaren. It was easily discovered later.

I do believe there's a meaningful difference here. F1 is not a target for demonstrators that are annoyed because of the event in Brazil. There are attempts of robbing material, not to disrupt intentionally the event and spread panic through the whole paddock.

Safety issues have to be improved in that area of São Paulo (other areas are as dangerous as any european metropolis) but that's not a matter of a considerable amount of a population being against the Grand Prix like what happens in Bahrain.

As usual, the main national news program in Brazil reported the action of the day on the Grand Prix. But this time absolutely nothing was said about what happened on track. The report was only about the problems around the track.

Well to be perfectly honest, in the scheme of things I think that is probably the more important issue at the moment

You know if you rearrange the letters in Brazil, you get Bahrain.

This sort of hub-hub is no different to what happens every year in Brazil. It seems there every 2 years a team gets seriously attacked, I remember in 2010 when Jenson Button had machine guns shot near him on the way to the track. What's the difference here?

I just have to laugh at comments like that...you know you're wrong, you're just wanting to troll a little bit! Ok, If there are safety issues in Brazil, it's nothing compared to Bahrain, Syria or any other country in civil war, just like MaTT well said. This is a completely non-standard comparison...

With the amount of information available out there it's really frustrating to read such opinions. What shocked me the most was to see people who worked in F1 like Whitmarsh and Vettel making those absurd commentaries comparing Brazil to Bahrain. Hey, these guys visit the country once at every year for almost a week and they had a very ignorant opinion about it, it shows to me these guys only do the following route: Race course-Hotel and Hotel-Race course.....Ok, they're working, but c'mon..c'mon!!! Enough data to consider them some really jerky idiots.

Coming back to the safety issues, If the problem is lack of information, let's do the News here, São Paulo is currently one of the mega cities in the World that improves the most in safety terms, there's still a lot to go but we're becoming examples.

When is Globo TV making any critical commentaries on F1's decisions? They only repeat what they're told to say in national network, the same official story and sometimes defending their own financial interests. Dirty TV, sorry, remembered you work there.

Ok. Now relate it to what is going on at Bahrain. I see no other thing than a copy and past speech here.

Very windy and dusty this morning. Could be a slippery track surface.
