Been fair most open wheel cars would have gone up like that after that sort of contact.

Yeah, I don't see anything unusual about that incident.

Aside from the fact that Indycar said the wheel guards would mean it wouldn't happen again....

They fly as easily as any other open wheeler. It's an inherent problem not solved by wheel guards. Which everyone apart from Indycar knew months ago.

Yeah, but the wheel guards were designed specifically to stop this sort of thing, and it did absolutely nothing but bend like we all predicted.

The guards are simply there as a reaction to the issues of the old car. Practically they do nothing at all, they are just for show.

So Darios complaining of throttle problems, and Dixons stopped on track. Those are bound to be related.

BTW are the wheel guards on the updated oval aero package any stronger?

Certainly look wider/taller.

They were only ever going to work if the guard protruded out further than the wheel, which they do not, so they were never going to prevent this.

Exactly! The cars should't get off the ground like that...

Wouldn't work in that case either. You can see them bend when hit even in very low speed nudges, nevermind a hit which would result in a car coming off the ground. They are simply to make a safety statement, not a practical resolution to anything.

Front suspencion is to tough for those wheel guards. Marco's car bounced on the guard and his wheel looked like it didn't even hit anything.
