That felt like a classic 80s gp that Murray Walker would always go on about towards the end there...

Watching the gap come down by seconds a lap felt like Silverstone 87 with Piquet and Mansell

The fact it was a plucky underdog vs an experienced veteran made it all the more exciting...
Was pulling for Perez so badly, was gutted when he ran wide but after I calmed down after the finish I realised Alonso is pretty much an underdog this year too so can be satisfied with the result.

And as much as I could believe Ferrari would just love to suck the fun and excitement out of that finish with an order to Sauber, I think that was the kind of thing that would happen under last regime, not the guys running the show currently.
Until I'm presented with concrete proof that Ferrari sent that message I'm not going to believe it, it'd spoil the memory of an almost perfect grand prix and I don't want anything to do that!

So there you go, the first epic grand prix with Ben Edwards commentating, and it only took 2 races! Perfect!

Now, who has the complege on-board feed to post on here?

"Not in keeping with the sport"/Coulthard 2000

I like his attitude of "fuck this corner, I'm angry and I'm gonna show it, I'll deal with the corner later" though....

The tight bastards probably aren't paying you anything, though.

it's not Massa that is bad, it's just Alonso that is Fangio-esque.

One thing I enjoy about the cars being closer than 2011 and also 2010, is that when someone is on it, they get a good result, not 8th or 9th, behind Hamilton and Massa who drove into each and an anonymous Webber. Perez and Alonso were on it at the right times and they finished 1st and 2nd. Senna seemed to be carving his way through the field and he got 6th. Last year he would have got 10th. Vettel and Button come across problems and they actually get a dire result, not a 5th.

Yeah, actually Hamilton's season could've been even worse last year (on paper) had it not been for the gap between the first 3 teams and the rest of the pack. Despite making a whole lot of errors he was virtually guaranteed to finish around the 5th place as no team except for McL/RB/Ferrari was able to put up any fight. Couple that with DRS giving you free passes (as long as you had the pace) and carving your way up through the field seemed like a piece of cake for the big teams in 2011.

Only just browsed the forum since the race, and all I can say is I'm absolutely staggered that people are thinking Perez's mistake is some sort of conspiracy

Thing is, people say that, but I remember when Piquet crashed at Singapore and it just happened to advantage Alonso. Anyone suggesting a conspiracy was laughed at - then the truth came out. Shady shit happens all the freaking time in motorsport. In F1, Ferrari are the main offenders. In sportscars, unsportsmanlike antics tend to come from Peugeot. In NASCAR, it seems to be Chad Kanus. When something questionable happens, people SHOULD raise their hands and go "hey, wait a minute", because the teams have proven they sure as hell aren't going to play nice just for the sake of the sport. Even those who are seen as more fair than others are at it - look at Red Bull asking Seb to park the car, and Seb refusing saying that isn't how the sport should be. And he's right! So it may not be a conspiracy, but when something dodgy happens people should be questioning it, because if we don't, nobody else is going to.

The thing that bugged me about it is, everything was a huge coincidence here, and Sky refused to even talk about it. It probably isn't a conspiracy, it probably just was one of those things. But David Croft said it live and Brundle gave and awkward "...yeah", and then quickly changed the subject. Then in the post race, not a single person mentioned it until Martin Whitmarsh brought it up. All of the presneters faces dropped to the ground, and once again it got really awkward, and they changed the subject. They flat out refused to even talk about it - either evidence for, or against a conspiracy. Now I know Sky pissed off the teams pre-season, and currently aren't making friends with others in the paddock, but this playing nice bullshit is ridiculous. Had Sky been presenting Austria 2002, would they have pretended it was a legit pass for the win?

Wasn't it at Jerez 97 where the Sauber team was asked by Ferrari to make it Villeneuve a little bit difficult to overtake when he was lapped? I thought this story came up a few years ago.

But I can't believe that would happen now, because in my humble opinion common sense is playing a role in here. Everyone knows that Alonso is not easy to overtake, it would also mean Perez would need to go away from the dry line and put his slicks on a damp part of the track in an attempt to overtake. And why risk an unexpected brilliant result, and the fact that Ferrari would be not at all happy if something would have gone wrong.

I don't believe in conspiracy here, only common sense! If you see Peter Sauber's emotional reaction, I think it's pretty clear.
