Sunday Forecast

So, to the race day forecast. The numerical weather models have continued to paint an increasingly wet picture for Sepang day-by-day and this trend continues. First off, we are looking at a projected CAPE value of over 1,500 J/kg by late-afternoon – or, to take the science out of it, a 50 percent higher chance of rain is expected than what the forecasts were predicting for today’s qualifying session.

Cloud cover projections are for overcast conditions – particularly in the final couple of hours before the race. Also, surface air pressure is expected to drop significantly tomorrow afternoon. All this points to one expected outcome – rain.

Sunday morning is likely to start off dry with some early sunshine, but towards midday and certainly through the early part of the afternoon, conditions over Sepang should become progressively darker, turning overcast. Tomorrow’s GP2 race and the first half of the grand prix lie in the heart of the expected thunderstorm window and a wet track at some stage is expected. Air temperature is also set to decrease slightly, reaching a maximum of 30 Celsius.

Now it’s a question of watching and waiting to see what Sunday brings. Throughout the day I will be glued to the latest radar and satellite images. Quickfire updates will come through the Twitter feed as and when conditions change in the lead-up to the big race. Finally, for those of you in Europe, the clocks move forward by one hour later tonight. Don’t forget, because this is one race you must not miss.

If it rains I hope for something completely ridiculous. Say, a Nurburgring 2007 situation, but with no restart.

And Narain Karthikeyan lifts the winners trophy above his head!!

I was thinking about whilst I went out to get a pie earlier on today about that, and maybe somewhere the logic was confusing me, but since they are all younger, you could say, Schumacher was the oldest man in a press conference since Melbourne 2012, and then Schumacher is again the oldest driver to make a press conference since Japan 1994. But since Schumi appears to be the oldest we can come up with, he will always be the oldest since always.

I'll try again. Because Schumi may be the oldest driver to make a press conference, he will always be the most extreme example. Take Australia 1994, which has a 40+ driver in the conferences and may well have the second oldest appearance, I can immediately find a race that is further back in the Japanese GP. Stefmeister can then retort that he too has found such a race and raise me the 1994 European GP and this will continue until we come across the date the press conference was first started.
