Google translation from that E-I link:

Quote:
It is also in the Mulsanne straight, opaque, green tarps that have been installed so that local residents do not stay against the fences to watch the race. New modular panels were positioned to protect homes which are less than 50 meters from the runway. These protections were created at the request of the ACO and FIA Institute tested in Switzerland during specific tests. It is modular displays including installation and removal are quick and coming either replace or supplement the existing fences. For now, 830 meters of these screens are present in nine different areas. It is expected that more than two kilometers are well protected in the short term.

This may not be directly related to the crashes last year, but actually surprised that they didn't end up doing something more extreme like actually altering some corners or adding big run-offs at certain places.

The fence style might be new, but those tarps have been there a few years. 2009 they were up when I did the track walk. It's a shame really.

Also mentioned in that article is that new green stuff at the renewed Arnage being extremely slippy, even on foot. I suppose we'll be seeing quite a lot of spinners there that wouldn't have happened with the original exit.

I had a look at the media guide for photographers. I noticed that opposite the circuit of McNish's accident is a Red Zone.

Is it the first time this year or since Treulyer's big accident in his Pug in 2008 or 2009?

Was last year the closest ever Le Mans race that wasn't a staged formation finish of some sort?

2nd closest.

Amazing final laps after 5:00

Despite the traditions, the full speed finish feels more like a real finish.

Haha. I'm on the bus from Scotland to Manchester, where I get picked up. Off to Stoke where I'll stay the night (and watch the Canadian GP). Then we set off tomorrow morning for Portsmouth. Having food and apparently watching the England game in a pub (I fear for my life). We get the overnight ferry to Le Havre (fuck the Dover ferries) then arrive noon/afternoon in Le Mans. Aiming to be setup in the warmest point of the day since its meant to be raining. Similar story on the way back, I'm a day late in arriving home compared to everyone else.
