Apparently McLaren got their fuel calculations wrong and had to go into severe fuel saving mode. If that's true then a) that's rather silly and b) the car is looking even better.

I thought it said 8 laps before finish, but Whitmarsh is saying from lap 8 in the race.
Rather silly indeed, how could they misjudge it so massively? But on the other hand good news indeed, for a McLaren supporter.

Isn't it better to pit under the SC because once you're in the pit lane, nothing changes whether it's yellow or green. Say 30 seconds time. If you go past the pits under green like Vettel, say 15 seconds, but at reduced speed, like Hamilton, say 20 seconds. If at all other times they are travelling at the same speed, Vettel will have completed those laps 5 seconds faster than Hamilton. So, if it looks like a safety car, you want to wait until one is thrown before pitting UNLESS you think you'll get caught behind the SC.

The way I saw it, Hamilton lost position to Vettel because he had to cover more distance under delta than Seb.

Anyway, here's what Seb thought of the day

Quote:
One thing was for sure today – Abbey has the right potential and that's what gives us courage and self-confidence. We don't have to hide behind our result today, especially after the not so perfect Saturday. We were able to get a lot closer to McLaren during the race than we did during the qualifying, but in the end, Jenson was still too fast for us. It was quite a bummer, but we just weren't able to get the maximum out of the car quite yet.

Beside the race itself, we had some pretty interesting scenes on the track today. As I suddenly saw a truck right in front of me, I didn't feel like I was racing anymore, I felt as if I was stuck in traffic on the German Motorway A5. Towards the end of the race we also had a motorsport marshall walking pretty close to the track, in a phase of the race when everyone was still racing full speed. The poor guy must have the biggest balls ever in the end I just missed the kangaroo . Luckily, we have to say, nothing happened during these incidents. Everything was a bit crazy.

I know its a bit off-topic, but, after this race, I was thinking "Oh man, would be great to have Kubica there". I miss him a lot, his talent, his agressive style of driving, these new cars, that are more difficult to handle, it would fit him so well, Kubica had a fantastic car control, its so sad what happened to him, and it looks like he ain't coming back. It reminds me of Nannini, another great driver that had his career ended when he was in a great form.

Are you sure you mean 1996? I don't remember anything happening this year, other than Hill winning the title.

I thought that was a good race.. it'll sound mean, but I'm happy Maldonado wrecked at the end, that was pretty crappy the way he just went right into Grosjean. I was surprised there was no steward involvement in that.

Both Ben Edwards and David Coulthard agreed that Maldonado had made the pass and Grosjean should have backed out, in the end it was an unfortunate accident
