Safer barrier was smoked black, it wasn't cooked.

The catch fence is probably also weakened or melted from the heat too.

Although I would love to see a fellow OHIO'an win, this would be the worst anti-climatic finish in history. Here's keeping the fingers crossed for a restart!!!

It's unlikely that fire got hot enough to damage steel, I'll say it again, avgas ignites at 50°C which is significantly lower than regular fuel.

Did they just dig up the beach and bring it to turn 3?

Hoping that's the case.

The SAFER barrier can be replaced in sections, that's of no concern.

If the tracks OK once they clean it off, we'll go back racing.

Wouldn't say that. This has been more interesting than a race called for rain.

There was significant burn marks to the SAFER Barrier, but we didn't get a good enough shot to know if it was only paint.

ask anybody that works with racing fuel and they'll tell you that.

racing fuel is so expensive that people use a 50/50 mix of regular fuel and avgas during testing, if you're lucky enough to get a license to handle avgas at ground level, then you simply can't miss the huge ignition point notices on the barrels when they arrive, they are as big as the drum itself.

So yeah, I'm an expert in what temp avgas ignites and burns at, working with it for 15 years will give you a little insight.

I'm just trying to pass that insight along because most people are not aware of the ignition point of avgas, sorry if you have a problem with that.

Congratulations Juan Montoya, your stupidity has just ruined the Daytona 500.

You're right. He should have predicted the future and made his car break somewhere else.

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to find the stupidity to blame JPM for it, but I wasn't disappointed again.

You should have checked the chatrooms next to the streams. How many stupidity comes from people that say they know all about racing is just :8:

As if any driver could have done anything in a situation like this.
