I don't get this obsession with believing that every F1 driver should be amazing by the time they are 21 or 22. Grosjean has re-entered F1 at the age of 26 and he's a much better driver for it. Sure, he's no Alonso, but then again, no-one is...

Anyway, isn't this the Nelson Piquet that had his ass handed to him by Fernando for a season and a half?

Yeah, I think it's the same Nelson Piquet Jr. who was so desperate to have his ass in F1 that he deliberately crashed his car to get another season, funded by his dad.

I don't understand why we're supposed to give a shit about Piquet's thoughts on F1 anyway.

Sure, he's doing ok in NASCAR but just because he has the attention of a few reporters over there and one of them thinks he can get a few extra bucks from asking some F1 questions after his NASCAR stuff is dealt with, and suddenly we have to wade through him insulting the drivers who sit in his old seat? yay?

I'm stunned he didn't say the guys in his old team are the best drivers to ever race for them, an indeed F1 as a whole, really, I am.

You can say what you want about Piquet Jr, but you're still having a conversation thanks to his comments.

I laughed at Piquet after reading that nice piece of digital toiletpaper. Sure Piquet, Raikkonen is weak. How many world championships have you won again? Oh wait, you had to crash into somebody to secure your seat for next year. Ah...

I could, but I'd probably get sued.

So...Felipe Massa. He's been pretty solid this year. He's on his way to be the next Nelson Piquet Jr. of F1, a Brazilian humiliated by Alonso and finally been kicked out from the series due his bad performance and occasional mistakes.

The problem is that Massa still has his pace. His first few races were utterly disastrous, but since then - Germany apart - he's been near to Alonso. He just keeps making errors and he's inconsistent. He looked good in Canada and then spun early on and ruined his race.

I don't buy that. Even in the Schumacher dominated years there were times when his teammate was equal or even beat him on track. Massa hasn't shown any sign of that and what does performance mean when you keep spinning and crashing yourself out.

He finished in that train of cars in Monaco, +10 seconds in Canada, GB and Hungary and IIRC in Valencia, when the SC came out he was only 5-10 seconds behind, but that ended up with Alonso in 3rd and Massa 10th and then he was attakced by Kobayashi.

In all qualifying sessions his pace has been much improved and I believe on 3 occasions he lined up alongside Alonso.

The problem is that you can be 10 seconds behind someone in todays F1 and that can be the difference between 5th and 10th.

In the Schumacher championship years the Ferrari was a perfect car to drive for all but 2 seasons.

The Ferrari this year is a very poor car and difficult to drive, even now, according to their own technical director.

-----------------------

As far as Piquet is concerned, it's a miracle that he's still allowed to race anything above a lawnmower after what he did and his current level of achievement is where he belongs; scraping victories in NASCAR's equivalent of WSbR.

I've been very critical of Massa, but I'm starting to believe that the current Ferrari situation, it's more about Alonso being one of the best drivers in the sport's history than Massa being a really poor driver.

That usually happens when you're out of your depth though.

I would absolutely love to see the driver briefings; they must still be a little bit like that.

That's not new footage, I believe it was in the Senna movie. Why is he a daddy's boy for rightly getting angry?
