According to the circuit owners and promotors, they managed to negotiate a deal which, if you read between the lines, makes them lose less money than previous years, so it's a step in the good direction!

Also (quick direct translation): "We had a wish from our French colleagues to alternate the French and our GP, and we were open to that suggestion because it provided us an opportunity. Negotiations were long and dragging, mister Ecclestone is a very difficult man to do business with but he has always been correct and fair with respect to our previous agreements and promises. Luckily, or not, our French colleagues did not manage to follow up their plan for their GP, so we had all liberty to sign an extended 3-year contract."

I'm just wondering if Rogge has something to do with it. He was at Silverstone today, rather than Wimbledon - an Olympic venue - and he is Belgian...

Given that Bernie is the Spa race promoter, he has a strong interest in keeping the race there. Remember he bought the rights to it to keep it on the calender. Paul Ricard would be very hard to turn profit on.

If they wanted to have a motor race in the Olympics just use the old Superleague Formula cars and run a similar event structure to what SF had.

The Belgian Grand Prix is not so much Belgian as it's only the Wallonian budget which is affected by the GP, so they are the ones who decide and negotiate. I don't think Jacques would have a lot of influence in that, unless he suddenly provided a cash injection. In fact, I think that if it was up to federal or Flemish decision, the GP would have been long gone already.

Rogge said F1 isn't an olympic sport because you depend and have to rely on your material. Like any other olympic sport (good luck at the cycling events with your regular sportbike then).

He makes a complete fool of himself too, F1 isn't an olympic sport but all that horse crap is? It's not like you can use your everyday horse at olympic events...can't say I was expecting anything else from a rhino.

F1 itself can't be an olympic sport but there is nothing wrong with a RoC style event for the Olympics.

It's already a pain in the ass to organise olympics with all the countless crap there is, no need to add one of the hardest sports to host.

Agreed, but to me the Olympics is a B event anyway, not the greatest sporting event they want to make us believe it is. Most of the sports in it are never covered on TV throughout the 4 years in between the games. But when it is the olympcis, suddenly everyone cares about archery or badminton. And your a hero when you get the gold for your country. I have nothing against any sport, but I hate when people suddenly get this huge interest in these sports just because it's the olympics.

Or they include all sports (including motorsport), or they should stick to sports that are purely based on human ability, with no use of equipment ( this would mean running on bare foot, swimming naked, ...). There wouldn't be many sports left if it can't be a sport depending on equipment.

I'd like to see one or two formula races (F1, F3), a touring car race (WTCC) a rallye race amd three bike races like in moto gp. There is a racetrack near every olympic city. Don't see a problem in hosting.

What about oval racing then?, I think that if motorsports was ever an olympic sport the best bet would be a race of champions style event

Could'nt see why there could not be a sort of A1 "world series." I have very little interest in the Olympics anyway, this would be at least one event I'd watch.

Hamilton ‘ready’ for Lotus amid McLaren crisis

I haven't even thought about Lotus being an option. I only thought Mercedes and perhaps Red Bull were possibilities, but perhaps he's looking further than that.

Don't know how much of it is true but I'm getting the same feeling again as with Kimi when he was at McLaren. Constant frustration because of the results and many rumours about leaving the team, which perhaps will turn out to be true again?

Would be a real shame.
