More observations, this time from Autosport's Edd Straw:

"First stop was Turn 1 and Hamilton, frankly, looked mighty through here. Late on the brakes, he banged down the gears with absolute confidence and was able to get on the power very fractionally earlier than Vettel...and stay there. It wasn't that the Red Bull looked bad by any means, just that Hamilton could be fractionally more committed after turn-in."

"Both cars handed the transition from Turn 2 into Turn 3 very well but Hamilton opted for a slightly wider line on entry and a more aggressive turn-in, to which the car responded excellently. The result of that was come the middle of the corner, he ended up using a little more road on the outside, while Vettel held his Red Bull on a tighter line. The upshot of that is that Hamilton certainly has a car that he can attack with"

"Campsa was more revealing. It is preceded by a medium-speed left-hander, in which the McLaren looked a little more of a handful than the Red Bull. While Vettel was able to feed in the power decisively and the rear of his RB8 bit beautifully, the rear end of the McLaren was a little bit less stable and a couple of times led to minor wobbles on the kerbs from Hamilton. In Campsa itself, both cars looked excellent"

[Final Chicane] "Vettel looked a little quicker, although it appears that he had a little less fuel than the McLaren looking at the way his run was structured."

Basic conclusion was that they're too close to separate.

Those observations are bullshit imo. How many times did the McLaren look "fractionally better" in free practice in 2011? And still Vettel grabbed pollposition by "surprise".

Also a couple of kilos more or less fuel in the car can make the comparison of the cars behaviour total bullshit.

I will only believe the times in qualifying at Melbourne.

Well of course, no-one will accurately know until Melbourne. Even then it can be deceptive.

But the point is that several observers have noted that Red Bull & McLaren look very close - yes, Vettel will probably still have a one lap advantage but McLaren should be able to take the challenge to him in the races on a more frequent basis.

Well they are enough to know it's still the same teams up top at this stage. No one really knows how the cars behave without the raw data.

Was the Gala's F1 2011 highlights ever posted here? Or didn't they create one?

Wait, that was it?!

There likely was a highlights clip produced for & shown at the FIA Gala, however The FIA Gala wasn't broadcast anywhere this year so we likely won't ever see it.

Ferrari wash said to be the best car in the last 2 pre season testings. Everywhere you went, there were track observers saying how stable and fast they were and looking at their "long stint" times, most people thought Alonso would be champion.

When the seasons actually came, RBR trashed Ferrari.

Yeah, it is. Thanks. Looking to get donations to fund potential travel :p (Well, as a sort of "payment" for anyone who likes the articles, I'm not just begging!)

cute story but I think peeps who think it's a "spot on replica" need to see an optician, or doctor.

Ferrari are probably already lobbying the FIA in an attempt to slow the replica down.

Season Preview: Sauber
http://www.f1zone.net/news/season-previ ... ber/12513/

Not the longest article because it's Sauber and not many people care. Still, I now have a donate button because I have so much self-importance. If you do like my features that have been on the site for the past year, and forum for the past two years, then MAKE A DONATION. If you do, thank you and I'm humbled. If not, fuck you, but I'd understand :p

Oh, and I would actually spend any money on actual travel or whatever rather than just scandalously cheap chocolate.

Today I attended a Q&A about Aerodynamics lectured by a member of RedBull Racing. I asked him about the stepped nose they use and about "driver cooling". The answer was somewhere in the middle... He told me why they chose for a nose like that instead of the McLaren solution but would not add anything about the "driver cooling" but was laughing a little. Something going on there :p
