McLaren didn't launch with a 2012 nose, imo.

You just look at what other teams have done to get around it. McLaren especially.

Ferrari's does come across as uninspired.

By my own limited knowledge, McLaren's solution requires them to lower the entire nose-section which I expect to influence the drivers position. What effect will it have on the drivers??

And maybe the bump will generate a little bit more of downforce as well...

according to this bbc vid http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/16864721 the nose design on the mclaren may actually leave them with less room for air to move underneath the car. the ferrari design, as with the others so far, is merely attempting to maximize the airflow underneath the car within the current regs.

i'm a big mclaren fan, but i'm gonna be apprehensive about mclaren's prospects until they emphatically prove my doubts unfounded.

I think the Force India looks great. The Ferrari is quite severe but if it wins no-one will care. As for the reactions people are having, well it's no surprise. We were all the same when the 2009 breed appeared. But it seems we have short term memory loss. The 2010 HRT had a subtle version of the stepped nose cone for instance:

And the platypus nosecone has been used by Red Bull since mid-2009

Don't believe thats what was banned.

The regulations reads:
Quote:
20.3.4
Any camera or camera housing fitted in the left hand position 2 shown in drawing 6 must be mounted in order that its major axis where passing through the centre of the camera lens (or corresponding position for a camera housing) does not intersect any part of the car lying forward of the camera or camera housing.

I read that as them banning teams from putting the camera mounts really low down behind the front wing out of the main air-flow as we saw a few teams do last year.

Can I ask a simple question folks?
Have the FIA changed the rules for winning the championship this year? I understood the rules to be the driver & team with the most amount of points wins the title, not the one with the ugliest design!!!

WTF is up with the designers this year?! These are the most hideous looking F1 cars in over 20 years! I hope the Ferrari is even worse than last years car because the less time it spends on the tv screen at the front of the field, the better!
Drivers used to go on about how elegant, beautiful, curvaceous their intended vehicles were at the respective launches of their cars - where are those quotes now in 2012???

Fucking hell, the designers doesn't care how the cars look, they want a car that WINS. Why is that so god damn hard for some people to understand?

I'm not entirely convinced that a designer does not care how a car looks.

Ofcourse, but if they have to choose between a beautifull car and a winning car, the choice is simpel.

So are their designers ...

(And so the discussion goes full circle once more ... my work here is done.)

F1-cars have been butt-ugly since 2009 for me (and they weren't pretty before either). So these recent changes just leave me indifferent. I'll still watch it, just not for the nice cars.

I think it varies on livery too. The Brawn GP at the start of 2009 looked awesome, yet with all the random sponsorship in Brazil looked horrible.

Anyway, Sahara has withdrawn Indian cricket team sponsorship and Pune Warriors ownership. Wonder if that's bad news for Force India?

Agreed. I still hate the current unproportioned looking wings, but then again before that I hated all the weird aero kickups the cars had started to sprout, not to metion the grooved tires and the narrower cars from the 1998 regulations changes.

I have always loved those early 90s McLarens. One of my favorite pictures ever is from the 1993 car at Monza (I love that low downforce wing look):

I so so so wish Ferrari would go back to the classic red and black look. The black accents just work so well.
