I just wonder why the engineers of a team as Ferrari could not come up with a more inspiring nosecone solution!? While the Force India looks quite elegant for what it is Ferrari's way is just lame. It just matches the 2012 technical regulations, nothing more, nothing less. Ferrari really lost a lot of their "let's revolutionize it" spirit they had in the past.

How do you know it isn't the best solution? Just because it isn't as aesthetically pleasing doesn't mean its function may be worse than the others.

I think it is the best solution indeed. Otherwise, why opt for this and not make it smoother??
I'm no expert but if this nose isn't helpfull in some way, I strongly doubt they used it....

Because this step (which is basically a wall) is way beyond my imagination of proper aerodynamic design. Of course I'm not an expert so I'm not able to judge whether it is good or not. But this coventional look is something I would not have expected from Ferrari.

You just look at what other teams have done to get around it. McLaren especially.

Ferrari's does come across as uninspired.

mmm yes people without any aero skills, millions in wind tunnel and CFD equipment can tell based on just looking at it that it is not as good or better a solution than the others.

Gary Anderson reckons the Force India's the best/most exciting of the lot so far, from what he's seen.

As for the McLaren having and old nose on the car - possibly, but their chassis is lower than anyone elses hence why they don't need to weird mid-nose step; they're already starting from a lower point than the other teams.

By my own limited knowledge, McLaren's solution requires them to lower the entire nose-section which I expect to influence the drivers position. What effect will it have on the drivers??

And maybe the bump will generate a little bit more of downforce as well...

It seems he (Key, not Kamui) is off to Greaves Motorsport

Lower noses for safety reasons. To avoid a car climbing another car in case of a crash.

To avoid a thing that happened once a couple of years ago, but this will be the cause of another freak accident "that could have been avoided", but we don't know what yet because it still has to happen. Like a car digging himself under the other instead of flying over, I don't know. You can't predict and prevent everything. But this rule is going to take care of one possibility that hardly happens, and leaves other doors wide open.

That's what I can see happening. The nose looks low that there's the potential for something to crop up. But F1 will always be dangerous

Which is the next car to be launched? phil, does f1zone have a schedule for it? I looked and couldn't find it.

After all this horrible looking cars, I'm ansious to see the RB8 as I suspect Newey will come up with something more elegant.

On the forum we do, but here it is:

All times GMT
Feb 5th, 4pm - Lotus
Feb 6th, 11am - Sauber
Feb 6th, 1pm - Red Bull
Feb 6th, Evening (I think) - Toro Rosso
Feb 7th, 8am - Williams
Feb 21st, 8am - Mercedes

I got a confirmation email from Mercedes today saying it's just an unveiling in the pits before the second test.
