Lotus leaving IndyCar after 2012

Quote:
SPEED.com has learned the British marque is planning to depart the series with four years left on its five-year commitment, and once those talks are concluded, Chevy and Honda would be the primary engine suppliers for at least the 2013 season.

What was the point of Lotus joining Indycar in the first place? If your not putting any effort in it, why bother. Your not going to win races with a shitty engine. I don't understand how these company's think. If you suck, try harder. Don't pull out, f*cking losers.

Well we all know the Lotus business plan in general has been batshit mental this year. They were trying to beat companies like Ferrari and Lambo and left the lightweight sportscar scene all but empty, and the result was they sold fuck all cars. The motorsport effort was just brand everything and put in minimal effort. They have nothing to do with the F1 team except for sponsorship. The Le Mans effort was just second hand Lola P2s and sponsoring Rebellion. They haven't done anything properly as they spread the resources too thin.

The people currently running Lotus cannot be blamed.

Well, they can be blamed for hiring that fuckwit in the first place, but I think they regret that enough.

Their sportscar project is headed the same way; James Key has already jumped ship and is headed back to F1.

You just know by the time Simona can get some decent Honda/Chevy equipment next year, HVM will probably go out of business.

:(

Is Lotus even paying them? I thought Lotus promissed a lot but the team haven't seen much of it.

Let's hope Simone's sponsors are loyal to here.

Oh my god Simona,
Simona
Simona
Simona
Waaahhhhhhh

I'm more annoyed with the fact that Lotus failed while still expanding their racing operations (GrandAm car now too, fantastic) and now they are going to just hightail it out of here instead of...you know...not sucking.

I have no issue with Simona, but I'd take a competitive Lotus engine if it ment she was stuck with them for a couple of seasons to get there.

They're getting out of there because they have no money to fund all their racing exploits, because someone spent all their time inviting rappers to parties rather than actually selling production vehicles.

They no longer fund the F1 team (if they ever did).
They never funded their IndyCar programme properly (engine or teams).
I highly doubt they're putting money into 'their' GP2\GP3 teams.
And someone more knowledgeable than me can confirm or deny, but I doubt they were putting anything into their sportscar project either.

All of this can be placed on the head of one man who has always overestimated the value of the brand he worked for and led them time and time again up shit creek. First it was Red Bull in NASCAR; dead. Then it was Ferrari in A1GP; dead. And now it's Lotus in everything; dead.

Let's be real, Simona isn't that good. In 39 races, she's only managed to finish in the Top 15, 12x. I understand she drives for backmarker. But so have Wilson and Bourdais. I doubt if you gave Simona, Honda or Chevrolet engine. You would see vast improvement in her performance.

I could expect some manufacturer that it's already interested in enetring the series, can get involved with the Judd effort for a start. I think the Lotus engines will be in some form in next year's championship under another badge.

Some bits from Robin Miller who was on Wind Tunnel Sunday evening.

Randy Bernard has talked about bringing back the 500 mile triple crown (Indy, Pocono & Michigan).
He wants 19 races, Some teams are fine with 19 providing there good tracks while others say they can't afford 19 races.
There could be 3 races in Texas next year as the guy running the F1 track in Austin wants Indycar there.
Possibility for a 3rd race in Canada, Somewhere near Toronto.

And some other bits of speculation.

A.J. Foyt may try & hire A.J. Allmendinger if he ends up out of Nascar.
Kentucky is in talks about returning for 2013, Possibility we'll have 8 ovals.
Randy wants to start the season earlier.

If they want a 3rd Canada race, there is a perfect track in Mont Tremblant just waiting to be used.

Not sure about that logic, but I guess clumping the races together by grouping by location could help cut down on the costs of travel and team transportation. If that's what the teams want.
