As opposed to the weekends when they've been fast?

Such a nice track Monza! I know this bridge in front of the 2nd chicane has been here for years, but it looks so low so close to the breaking point..

I'm just back from the track.

First thing I noticed, F1 cars aren't as loud as I remember from the 90s, when I used to attend F1 testing regularly. While those Ferrari V12s were absolutely ear-shattering, these cars are much more bearable without earplugs, but most of all, they all sound quite the same. With the exception of Mercedes, with an edgier, "growlier" sound, and Renault, which sounded like an huge tractor with a broken exhaust pipe.

I also find trackside facilities (fencing, stands etc.) to be relatively run-down and with a general feel of carelessness for an event of such importance. Anybody who's been to Monza recntly had the same impression?

I think he means "braking point", and he worries about cars being launched into it.

At least, that would make the most sense to me

I miss the low downforce, skinny rear wings.

Big fat wings at Monza is just plain wrong!

I was there in 2008, and while the grim weather conditions might have added to it, I completely agree with you. Monza is by the way probably one of the worst circuits to
1) take photos (fencing in front of every stand)
2) see the cars for a long time (longest would be at the first chicane, and even then that would only be 10-15 seconds)
3) buy a grandstand ticket for (eg, the grandstand s/f: you can't even see in the pits and the cars fly by...)

Monza remains a classic, but I certainly wouldn't go back.

I totally agree with you about the sound. The V8s have lost a lot of Volume. Even the V10s up to 2005 were unbearable without earplugs. They were a force of nature.

About the facilities. Yep, that's the Monza charme. But therefore you get tifosi cutting down safety fences to get closer to the track and I even had Marshalls at the 2003 F1 test, where they came up to me and asked me whether I wanted to come and stand right behind the barrier with them. It's italy, it's supposed to be old fashioned, with rusty fences where you get blood poisoning if you cut yourself on them. Where you stand in the middle of a park, hear some golf players hitting it and right in front of you on a meadow, a U.F.O. in the most outragous colours zips past and makes the ground shake. Monza is magic. I really wouldn't like it to be "Tilkenized". It's old fashioned and you have to be aware of that. It's cultural heritage. I loved every second I spent in that park.

What was that about David Croft getting the job at Sky?

Yeah someone give that job to Karun.
