Another thing is that second place can't cross the line before the leader can they? Servia did pass RHR before the line.

I red somewhere in trackforum (yes I know...) that this rule isn't actually the case for restarts. It seems that he can overtake when the green is thrown.

Must be mixing it up with the NASCAR rule I guess.

Either way, I don't see Newman-Haas getting their way. That'll come as a shock to them considering how Champ Cars treated them in its final seasons.

I've seen literally 100+ now and they are mostly just some random image with him stuck in it somewhere. I've seen a bunch of "Where's Will?" kind of thing where they'll hide him in a crowd so you can try and pick him out.

I like the 'yaytree' version though. :p

And there is all the proof you'll need that we'll continue to have retarded decisions in IndyCar - because the rules are specifically designed to allow them to make it up as they go along. Literally.

-------------------------------------

Who led lap 220?

Ryan Hunter-Reay.

It wasn't Oriol Servia?

No, the series moved Hunter-Reay ahead of Servia under yellow.

Can they do that?

Well, it certainly happened.

-------------------------------------

Rule 1.1C(2) - "Officials shall have the discretion and authority to take any and all actions and make any and all determinations they deem necessary or appropriate during, or in connection with, an Event including without limitation determinations as to whether a Rule violation has occurred and whether a penalty should be imposed."

It all boils down to one ugly truth: As long as Rule 1.1C(2) exists, the rest of the rulebook can be rendered null and void at INDYCAR’s…(wait for it…you know it’s coming)…’discretion.’

If INDYCAR wanted teams to use nacho cheese rather than ethanol, Rule 1.1C(2) could be invoked. If INDYCAR wanted Dario Franchitti to get a Justin Bieber haircut before allowing him to take part in practice, boom, Rule 1.1C(2) would do it.

A rulebook is only as good as the rules it contains, and as long as the series allows Rule 1.1C(2) to exist, the book isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

-------------------------------------

This is why we continue to have questionable decisions in IndyCar, that don't have any consistency.

I checked the thread and didn't see this one, which I think is rather good.

Autosport.com says Ganassi has joined Newman-Haas in protesting the result, as Dixon was also ahead of Hunter-Reay.

Looks like they looked down the race order, found the first guy who was American and handed the race to him

/notheydidnt (but it makes about as much sense as anything else )

However, just looking through the rule book, there is nothing about passing before the SF Line. It only says that you may not pass before the Green Flag is shown via interpretation of this rule:

IndyCar Rule Book wrote:
7.5.A.4:4.The penalty for passing the Safety Car or another Car during a yellow condition without authorization by Officials shall be a black flag, lap(s) or such other penalty as Officials deem appropriate. A position ranking penalty assessed for passing during a yellow condition is discretionary and may not be protested or appealed.

Does anyone honestly think that Servia should be the winner? The officials cocked up, and then they put it right. In rare circumstances you have to apply common sense, even if it's not 100% clear in the rules.

Of course Servia should be the winner. You can't just pretend it didn't happen. He led when the yellow was thrown and he led at the line. The *only* way to get the results listed as Servia not being the winner is to pick a random lap and apply it, which is what they've done.

But as has already been stated, IndyCar rules are designed to literally allow them to make it up as they go along. So given the PR hilarity that's already occurred with IndyCars stupidity, there is no way they are going to change the results to what actually happened and turn hilarity into disaster.

I'm fine with their decision, they realized they made a mistake on having them restart the race, and they went back to the order before they restarted.. as it would've been if they would've kept them under yellow (or red flag due to rain), minus of course the damaged cars that got wrecked.

Lol, then why not ignore that crash at the restart? That's dumber, imo

Power was classified as finishing 5th... They did ignore the crash.
