Not him, the guy in the orange vest next to the marshall. If you look at the first pic, he's inches away from being hit by the car.

Ah. I think that pic is a little deceptive, because the car isn't going backwards at that point, it's rotating on its axis. But it does look fecking close doesn't it.

In a very paradoxical way, that saved him from being hit by the wheel (if you check the vids it just rolls by him)

As opposed to the other guy that had to avoid the wheel twice.

This guy?

That's Peter 'Pedro' May of Daily Sports Car. The wing flew over his him before hitting the wall. Went to Le Mans with him 4 times. :p

Hang on, it is Pete May?

Bloody hell, I didn't recognise him there. Has he said anything about the accident itself?

I spoke to him on Saturday night, he's fine. Got a few abrasions and bumps from diving to the ground, and his camera equipment took a dent or 2. He thought his phone was broken from the bang it took because the reception had completely gone, but it was just a New Years type thing where everybody at the circuit was texting and overloaded the network.

Good thing he is ok. I remember him from the 2003 race, give him a shout from me if you want to.

Did he carry taking photos of the aftermath or decided to compose himself after throwing himself onto the ground?

Sat across of him a few times in the press room (mainly at Zolder for the GT's), never spoken to him though! Cool

Well, that pic is certainly impressive. Both Rocky and McNish are incredibly lucky, and Audi must be congratulated on building cars that could withstand those crashes.

I read a comment from Guillaume Moreau (OAK #15) who was a bit further behind Rocky at the moment of the crash, and he just had to drive through a wall of debris, several bits of hit hitting his helmet. He was genuinely scared the laps afterwards and constantly asking the team about what exactly happend, because he (like us) didn't have the slightest clue what car it was.

EDIT: just reading Rockenfeller's FB page, there's an ambulanceman posting in there:
"I an the secourist who was neer you in the ambulance . i am very happy to know you are safe congratulation a very big crash."

Thought that was pretty cool

Only complaint I have about the race is not really seeing much of the other non-Peugeot/Audi's.

The McNish crash happened 2 minutes after we decided to go back to the car and get our bags if we had stayed 2 minutes longer we would have been right in front of it. We were a bit late for the start of the race and because of that we had parked the cars and ran straight onto the circuit  I wanted to put old shoes on but I failed so I guess I have to clean my new shoes.. :p

After that we decided to go to the campsite and get a closeup look at the Ferrari 458 challenge cars who were just being loaded into the trucks. Walked behind one when they started it and boy o boy, the sound is epic!

In 2010 I stayed awake whole night but this year I just couldn't do it. We came prepared but around 3 o clock we couldn't stand the cold any longer and decided to go to the car to get some sleep and turn on the heater

This years race was epic and I enjoyed it very much. Got a bit irritated at the end when Peugeot decided to just use their cars as Audi-blocking-devices. LMAO when they asked why it was called Peugeot Sport on radiolemans

Dont know if we go there next year, might go to Spa 24 hours instead. Its closer to home and we wont be annoyed by French people who cant be bothered to speak English and start to cheer when a backmarker Peugeot blocks the Audi...

Even considering I dislike (most) French people more and more every time I come to Le Mans, I still want to go there next year. :)

Glad the Aston Martin from last year was there, #22 had the best sounding car at Le Mans. The Corvette still is the loudest :) Ferrari 458 is a great car to see and listen to, was surprised by the Lotus Evora. I really did not like the car before Le Mans but I got some respect for it now.
