Comparing ad philosophy with other sports, AFL only cuts to ads when there is a goal scored, NRL only cut to an ad when a try is scored, why do we cut away from the action for an ad break in motor racing? AFL have to wait until a goal is scored before they can, why doesn't motor racing have to wait until a safety car until an ad break? This goes for OneHD as well, who have been getting gradually worse with their F1 coverage.

Ads are nothing new though, and they are just as frequent now as they ever have been.

How many minutes go by in a AFL game when neither a goal nor a behind are kicked? Not that many, meaning they can plan their ads around that. Similiarly in the NRL, of the three games played on free-to-air each week, only the one of them are live, the other two being delayed they can insert ads whenever they like (and for the next NRL rights deal, Channel 9 are demanding pauses in the games for ads)

Free-to-air coverage is dependant upon advertising dollars, it wouldn't happen without it. Why would a company buy airtime on a V8Supercar telecast if there was no guarentee of an ad break when there is a chance a race can go safety-car free. The V8 ratings aren't strong enough to make demands like that, all the advertisers would just walk.

Assuming the circuit is counter clockwise, very Oran Park feel about turn 1-2.

I think we would all agree that AVESCO should stop buggering around spending millions of dollars on races overseas when a purpose built circuit needs to be built here, or a current circuit (I'm thinking Barbagello or EC) refurbished.

I think the circuit is anti-clockwise.

Why should VESA (VESI, AVESCO, etc) spend money to build circuits? Circuits should be built by governments and private industry.

You don't see NRL or AFL building new stadiums, or F1 building their own circuits. Sure they may get their "F1 approved" designer to design it, but it's still other people's money.

Bernie Ecclestone has personal interests in many circuits around the world. NASCAR own plenty of circuits in the USA as well through ISC.

The problem with V8Supercars Australia is their refusal to race anywhere without government backing (look at Symmons Plains). What is going to happen when the state government well of money for the series dries up (ie.. some governments drop their street circuits, as has already been hinted at by the new NSW government)

Calder Park, Eastern Creek (whatever did happen there?)

Eastern Creek is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar upgrade (government funded), which will include the building of a new pitlane at the back of the circuit creating the abitlity to create two tracks, and run them both simultaneously (this will be particularly handy during the week for hiring the track out.

The upgrade is mainly being done due to the fact that in the space of Sydney has gone from having 3 circuits (Amaroo, Oran Park & Eastern Creek) to just the one.

Calder has been substantially upgraded over the past two years, however due to Bob Jane's ongoing disagreements with CAMS, it'll never host another CAMS-sanctioned event while ever Bob is running the show there.

Phil Ward, you F*cking idiot.

He should get a huge fine for that.

Not his call to stop the race, and also almost caused an accident

The Aussie Racing Cars start is on Darcy's site for those who haven't seen it.

Classic quote from Cameron McConville,

"For those just tuning in, this is actually professional motor racing"

I had the honour of watching that, possibly the most retarded start to a motor race ever, live at the track.

And I am extremely pissed off about the motherfucking police deciding that they had to direct traffic. They decided, that the best way to get everyone out of the secondary parking lot, was to send them down some shitty dirt track, then send to a shithole called Rosewood, then not allow them to take the road through Amberly, and by the end of all this, we lost 50 minutes.

I went there the last two years, and there weren't any traffic problems. FUCK YOU POLICE.

Oh, and the racing was OK.

A lot of drivers apparently were complaining about the racetrack's condition.

I'd be surprised if V8 Supercars keeps the date on the schedule, but either way Aussie Racing Cars won't be going back, I'm almost certain of that.

The investigations on minor bump and run incidents were a bit much, Moffat's in particular.

Hard to believe how mercilessly boring racing here is. Rain looks like it may be just out of reach too.

Don't really follow rally, but I'm so going to it. Heck, it's 20 minutes tops from home, so why not?
