So you start the race at 4 PM PT.

Maybe combo tix with LB or Sonoma may be an option to get SOME people there.

No it wouldn't. Your post - again - gave me a headache. Thanks.

Your knowledge of international timezones Joey is utter pants, and gives me a headache. Thanks.

Just incase you cant work it out, (well that's obvious really), Beezle was right in the first place, 9pm California (PST) is equal to Midnight Eastern, and 5AM GMT.

I think he's talking about the start times. Pretty sure IndyCar will not really appreciate a 12 AM ET start when 7 PM ET is a lot more viable in terms of viewership.

Erm nope, Joey failed at trolling, think that's pretty obvious.
Don't know, or care, what their history is, but it's not the first time I've seen Joey post a provocative reply to Beezle.

Uh, I wasn't trolling - nor was I really attempting to. Night races on the west coast that have viewership on the east coast (i.e. not Winston West races) normally don't get started at 7 or 9 PM Pacific time. That's 10 or Midnight on the east coast (3 AM and 5 AM in London), and that's not the least bit feasible for viewers on the east coast. Usually, these things get started around 5 PM local time (8 PM on the east coast, if you're keeping score, and 1 AM in London, for what it's worth)

Check out when the Cup races at Fontana got started when they were night races. They did not get started at 7 or 9 PM (again, 10 PM/3 AM and Midnight/5 AM), because a race getting started that late is tantamount to ratings suicide. Nobody's that stupid, and I wasn't trolling, Ian, and my knowledge of international time zones is hardly pants.

Being from California myself, they always start the race somewhere between 4-5:15 PM PT. That's not even primetime here. They do this to increase the viewership in the east coast, since only true racing fans would stay up past 12 AM just to watch a race in California.

As far as ratings are concerned start times are usually skewed in favor of East Coast viewers.

lol ok, you'd make a good politician here then, cos that's much more coherent compared to what you posted originally, you should go back and read it, cos it looks like you're saying he's wrong when he says what the time zones are.

Talking about the race itself, didn't they start a Nascar race at Fontana on a Sunday evening PST once? how were the ratings compared to a daytime race there - ok Nascar ratings are pretty crap all round at the moment, but comparing like for like might give an idea whether they're serious or not, I'll agree it really seems stupid to run a race in the middle of the night for your primary target audience, unless they just don't care that much for the figures, or there was no difference in the figures previously.

Righto, I'll quote my original post.

I was perhaps a little blunt - and I'm sorry for that - but nobody had mentioned what time the races would be coming on up to that point. I think the closest that anyone came to discussing the time was McLaren08, who said "A night race would be nice". Beezle then said that the night race would be a midnight race for those on the east coast. That's what I was trying to counter, and I probably should have been a little more specific. The race would not be a midnight race, as I sincerely doubt that IndyCar would get real good ratings for a race that started at 8 or 9 PM on the west coast.

I think the Cup races usually got started around 7 or 8 PM Eastern (so about 4 or 5 Pacific), and went through about the same timeframe that a night race at Charlotte went through - start at 7 or 8, end at 10 to midnight, depending on how long the race went.

Is anyone else wondering how they plan on getting people to show up to a Fontana race? The last Indy race there was like a ghost town. The grandstands had enough room to play catch on them during the race.
