he is smiling now and i know what he is thinking: "You may think im inside this coffin, but i'm not. i'm coming home this evening. With my friends, with my family, but most importantly with all of you". Here's the miracle he has fullfilled. He's now part of anyone of us, in our hearts, and we're here today to celebrate his last victory, the victory over death of Marco Simoncelli

The 58 will be retired and given to his family.

Thanks for the translation, didnt understand what he was saying, but that was the most powerful moment of the entire ceremony in my opinion.

I'm still really broken up about this.
The ceremony today was nice though. Real, heartfelt and they included everyone who wanted
to be there. Quite impressive for only having 3 days to plan everything.
His family are truly wonderful people. It's easy to see where he got his warmth and
attitude from.

I read there are thoughts about renaming Misano to honour Marco.

i've sent them mine 3 times, nothing happened.

All the necessary equipment to stabalise even the most seriously injured rider can be carried in a medical car and opperated by two trained doctors/EMT's. The ambulance is really only needed for transport to the medical center/hospital.

i read of people coming from everywhere, even from germany and far to pay tribute to Coriano and that Simoncelli family is wellcoming them in their home, talking with them, and spending time with them remembering marco. life as it should be.

Pure grace and love. I'm so sorry for them though. It's always pains me when sad things happen to great people and when wonderful people who make this world a better, warmer place leave this earth too soon.

I just saw that "Un giorno con Marco Simoncelli" video on youtube. I don't know how his father can cope with this, it's just too heartbreaking. He spend every day with his son during the season for years and now suddenly...

Couldn't say better. MotoGP won't be the same without Rossi, Simoncelli was up there to "replace" him (really tough task but he was getting ready for it) but with him now gone, there's nobody out there with the same flare, the same charisma, the same passion...

About the crash itself, as sad as it is I still think we can't avoid it. I've been looking at other forums and I've seen some pretty interesting (if not crazy) opinions. Some people say that he was already unconscious when he was struck. They base this opinion on his lack of "effort" to save the crash, and that he appears to be motionless right after he loses grip in the middle of the corner. Apparently (according to them) if he was conscious he wouldn't make that strange turn and go right back to the path of other riders. Well, my reply to those (legitimate) thoughts is this:

As you can see this is pretty similar to what happened to Marco, but in this case he was able to pick it up. If he didn't make it he would continue to turn left. Luckily for him though he wouldn't be in the racing line.
On Simoncelli's case I think it is clear that he lost the grip in the middle of the corner and as the true racer he was, instead of letting it go, he didn't give up and tried to pick it up. Unfortunately he took his efforts a little bit too long and he was back in the racing line. Plus, I read somewhere that his right leg got stuck on the bike somehow. There's even a shocking photo (I assume everyone knows it already, so I won't post it here) that shows the exact moment when he is struck by Edwards and Rossi, and appart from some other non important details, his leg still seems to be stuck to the bike. Is it possible that this "helped" the bike making that strange trajectory, and somehow limited Simoncelli's actions when trying to regain control? I really think so. I also read that he was seen loosing grip in that same corner sometimes before (I couldn't understand though if they meant during practice that weekend or during pre-season testing).

The helmet... well, I think there's not a single helmet in the world that can save you from a hit like that, and in his case the helmet coming off just makes it more shocking to watch. What I mean is that if the helmet stayed on he would still be fatally injured, it just came of because he was it in the neck (some reports say that he had a tyre thread on his neck) and that hit cut the strap. He was hit, he was injured by the hit, and the helmet came off after he received those injuries, so the helmet coming off WAS NOT the cause of his injuries, it was a consequence of the hit. There's also the possibility of the helmet being ripped of uppon impact, and in that case yes, it would cause some injuries. Some say that his long hair could have played a little part in the whole helmet thing as well, because supposedly such long hair makes it difficult to adjust the helmet correctly to the head...

The medic staff mess up... I think it's absolutely shocking that these days, on the 21st century, with so many safety standards, something like that can happen... The race was red flagged, they had all the time in the world to do all the procedures they thought necessary, and even I with my almost null medical knowledge know that in a case like that the last thing you must do is move the body around, let alone drop it!!! Ridiculous! It seems like the same happened with Tomizawa last year, I don't know because I didn't watch it, but what I know is that something even worse happened to poor Daijiro Kato. They just picked him up like they were picking up a bag full of potatoes, no care at all, they didn't even use a stretcher! We're talking about a WORLD Championship, not some kind of regional racing (and even there something like this would be unacceptable). I really think it's time for FIM to stop and think this all through.



We lost a great talent, a future world champion, the guy that would be THE star of MotoGP in the near future, but above all we lost an all around nice guy that loved what he did more than most of them out there, and he had fun doing it. He wasn't my favourite, Rossi is Rossi and nobody can top him, but to me Marco was right behind him. He will surely be missed.
