ARCA is changing their qualifying procedure at Talladega.

Quote:
The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will also introduce a new qualifying procedure where teams will qualify together for added excitement. Instead of one car going against the clock, the cars will be placed into groups based on their speeds from Friday morning’s practice session. The fastest lap during qualifying, which will surely showcase drafting, will determine each car’s numerical starting position in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 on Saturday.

This could be interesting.

It'll probably be fine. And it works well as a time-saver. Those cars are slow as fuck on their own, so waiting for each one to crawl around for three laps is always a painfully glacial affair.

They're slow as fuck even when pack racing. It takes them ages to get up to speed and even then it feels like they're crawling around the track.

A few photos from today:

Spoiler:
Bill Catania spins off Turn 2 in practice:

Hanging out with Darrell Basham and James Hylton is the fun part about these ARCA race weekends. Darrell was joking about being in James' "Driver Development" program, and that as long as the car owner is older than you, you can be a development driver.

Frank Kimmel hit the wall in Turn 4 in qualifying and damaged the car. He will start from the back of the field on Sunday.

Justin Boston won his third straight pole at Salem:

So far Grant Enfinger has DOMINATED the ARCA race at Salem in the first 70 laps. Jon Wes Townley just crashed out of 3rd. Enfinger had over a 1/3 lap lead on the field.

Late in the going, Ken Schrader, Tom Hessert III and Grant Enfinger are running 1-2-3 with Austin Wayne Self trying to track them down. Cody Coughlin is the only Venturini Motorsports car still in the race.

Grant Enfinger won at Salem after Ken Schrader had a tire go down and hit the wall in turn 1 in a green-white-checkered finish. Spencer Gallagher finished 2nd. Frank Kimmel finished 3rd after getting 2 free passes under cautions.

John Wes Townley cut a tire in Turn 4 and spun, bringing out the first caution after about 80 laps of green flag racing:

Talladega might be next, but we can still have three wide racing at Salem!

Karl Weber spun to bring out the yellow and cause a GWC. Ken Schrader had bumped the #99 a few laps prior trying to lap him, and cut down a tire. On the restart, Schrader cut a tire and hit the Turn 1 wall. The yellow was not thrown and Enfinger won his third race in a row:

Schrader was a good sport about it. He was joking with Grant when he came up to him in victory lane.

Awesome news, Grant Enfinger is getting his chance to run for the title.

Quote:
◾Grant Enfinger; Team BCR Racing to run full season: Grant Enfinger will run the entire 2014 season, Team BCR owner Howard Bixman announced at Talladega Superspeedway. Enfinger had planned a limited schedule, just as he did last year with Team BCR. However, after becoming just the second driver in series history to win the first three races in a year, his primary sponsor, Casite Motor Honey, has agreed to back the No. 90 Ford for the entire season. “We’re just so excited, so pleased,” Bixman said. “We’ve been working on this. Grant has had a great start to the season and we’re happy to get to keep this going, especially considering where we are in the points.” (In part from ARCARacing.com) (05-05-14)

Lol, that was irony incarnate. Pounded the concrete and then slid into the edge of the styrofoam.

Wow what a finish, they had to dodge do many walking wounded, lapped cars, wrecked cars and I bet they were worried about their own tyres too, yet still they pushed like crazy :8:

Loved the speedbump on the way into pit road too
