Massively underwhelmed with the Sky announcement.

No Support races, no extra on-boards, no team radio feed or anything, no money for you, Mr Murdoch.

Not going to pay for the same thing I got from the BBC all these years.

BBC I have sympathy for because they're under fire from a government who wants to break it up so people like Murdoch can make more money, but Sky, with all their money, just want to copy and paste the BBC viewing figures without bothering to offer them anything extra.

No thanks.

If the BBC can sneak Ben Edwards in to the main commentator position then things won't seem too bad after all.
That'd be worth waiting 2 or 3 hours for ;)

Because the BBC are so good at spending the money wisely right? They wanted more, the government said no, you'd really want to allow those currently running BBC to waste even more money?

Doesn't matter what the governments 'intentions' are, the BBC is run by retards.

No the BBC is run by a committee and I fully admit committees aren't usually the best way to get things done.
They end up trying to please everyone and sometimes they can't manage that all of the time, but they're the only broadcaster whose motivations aren't just ratings and profits and now more than ever that's so important.

As I say, look at Sky's actions right now, they think they can tap into the F1 audience built up by ITV and BBC over the years and just make them empty their pockets without actually putting in any extra effort whatsoever.

They're not raising the bar, coverage wise, they're not doing anything that the BBC weren't doing in 2009, heck its even a lot less than they offered themselves 10 years ago, they just want F1 fans money without having to improve or enrich their experience at all.

When profits are the priority, to hell with the people.
Sky's motto since the year dot.

So yeah, I'm really glad the BBC are still involved in the coverage even if its just at the level they can.

That said! ( :p ) if anyone wants to start organising a series of meetups in pubs to watch the live coverage the BBC aren't doing, count me in! :D
(Heck, we could even podcast it too :p )

Been fair though they havn't announced the full details on exactly what will be on offer so its a bit early to really complain about what they will/wont show.

Hasn't been a definitive answer regarding supports, They apparently do have the rights to them & I'd be surprised if they didn't show them sonewhere.

They have announced interactive features including an OnBoard feed, Could just be the OnBoard-Mix or it could be more, Have to wait for more details to come out:
Quote:
EXTRA LIVE CONTENT: Through Sky's interactive service, fans can follow the action through on-board cameras, go behind the scenes with the teams in the pits, and follow race data, to take them further inside the sport.

I think Team radio will be more down to FOM, There was some talk of FOM making them avaliable to broadcasters next year, If thats the case then its upto Sky if they use them.

As someone that already has the Sky Sports & now also the HD pack (Sky did me a deal recently where I got offered the HD pack for £2.50/month for 12 months) Im already fairly happy with whats been announced. I still get to watch everything live & in HD & will be able to Sky+ practice if I need to & there will be some form of interactive features including an OnBoard feed & will include some other features so its already pretty much met the bare minimum I was expecting/hoping for.

@Stef

I remember FOM saying at the end of 2010 that all radio transmission would be available from 2012

This article gives a bit of clarification as to why the BBC chose those certain races to show live

They can't even get all the Premier League streams shut down, they've got no chance shutting down F1.

Ben the Greek claims that Ben E. wanted to move for this year but was blocked by ITV from doing both.

If that block still exists, ITV will need to find someone else.

Simon Hill wouldn't be too bad.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Who is your suggestion on ITV4's budget, then?

I'd imagine ITV will just promote one of the support race commentators to BTCC, so Simon Hill or the other guy (Richard John Neil?). Hindhaugh did it when Edwards was busy a few years ago, it'd be nice to have him back but I'd imagine his Radio Le Mans committments will be too important.

Think the BBC just wanted its funding to keep pace with inflation, but the government refused that, even though no one voted for a licence fee freeze.

Unsurprisingly, Brundle has moved over to Sky.

Noticed adverts for Sky F1 pitchside during Stoke-Blackburn.

Guess I'll be going to see Mother and Father for Sunday lunch when the races are on Sky. Screw paying an extra £240 a year for a few sports channels. Keep Indycar, get NASCAR back, show the support races, and I might be tempted.

Did somebody mention pigs?

BBC F1's home page Tweets are now not showing ones by Brundle, Kravitz & Lee MacKenzie. So I guess the latter two are Sky-bound as well
