Something tells me that would be appalling. I'm probably wrong but it's a gut feeling of mine.

But a bit better than Sky. It will stay with BBC I think.

Guess we have to realise this is the best coverage F1 will ever have in the UK, nothing before has topped it (except Bernievision, obv) and nothing will again

I can imagine our next TV contract ending up a lot like Germany's...
Delayed highlights on terrestrial TV and live access to everything from Friday Morning GP2 practice to the end of the F1 race behind a paywall.

As a hardcore fan even I'd baulk at the idea of paying for coverage so goodness knows how they'd get money out of the "casual" fan...

Or maybe we'll enter NASCAR territory with two broadcasters sharing the season? :?

Just reading on James Allen's blog that its rumoured the BBC are likely to drop their coverage at the end of 2012

Fuck the BBC budget cuts. I really hope this isnt true but there seem to be a lot of strong rumours around

I would hope that the prevailing view will be that the viewing audience in this country is far too large for it to go pay-per-view, and that, if it did, the viewership would plummet.

Bernie stated that would be breach of contract by the BBC (I think they bought the rights until the end of 2014). Why drop it early? just don't send so many people to the races. Do they really need to send a separate crew for the radio coverage? I'd rather they drop all pre and post race coverage and just show all the sessions live.

Radio commentary is produced by USP Content so I don't think it would make any difference. Or maybe I'm wrong?

me and a few members of this forum agree that the F1 coverage these days is near to being brilliant.

However, three things still bother us.
1. Just before the start, the cameras showing the team bosses, as if it's a movie trying to create suspense. To me it has the opposite effect, so stick with the cars!
2. The yellow flag without (ever) knowing what has happened -"ghost yellow"-
3. The replays of the start much too early in the race, effectively leaving you frustrated about what is happening on the circuit.

Read this on Autosport and agree - the timing tower seems to be blocking more of the screen this weekend.

Sky can go fuck themselves. I'm not paying for that. The IndyCar and NASCAR coverage is a fucking joke.

Not to mention NewsCorp's part ownership of Sky. The phone hacking scandal serves to underline the shitbags that they are.

And equal eff you to Barbara Slater and the BBC for being a supine partner in all of this. I appreciate that there are budget issues, but who the hell watches BBC Three? Half the stuff is rubbish and Family Guy could be sent to BBC Two!

So in 2011 we get the best coverage ever.

For one season.

Apparently next year its James Allen on Sky

And what about the channels overseas that rely upon the UK feed for their commentary? I feel for them as well.

God, if James is indeed commentating, that's another good reason not to bother.
