The problem with 3 car teams is that if you have a season like this where 1 team has a dominant car your just likely to see the championship end earlier with the dominant car maybe locking out the podium. Plus there is the possibility to use the 3rd car tactically to simply take points off rivals.

You also have the issue that big teams running 3rd cars simply pushes the Mid-Field teams further back which would cost them points & that would hit them financially. You could say only let the smaller teams run 3rd cars but that isn't what Luca is pushing for, He wants 3 Ferrari's, Not 3 Williams.

3+ car teams were fine back in the 50s/60s/70s when you had teams not running every round so sometimes needed 3rd cars to fill the grid. However now you have 12 teams comitted to entering 2 cars at every race of the saeson so your always guaranteed a full grid so I don't see a need for 3 car teams.

For testing I think they should have Monday testing after 6 races (Barcelona, Silverstone, Germany, Spa, Monza, Brazil) & also bring back 3rd cars in Friday practice.

This, although the rounds would be whatever was logistical.

That's the "so bad it's almost funny" category.

All it takes is 3-4 days during the season, that's the perfect amount, not too costly logistically if it were MotoGP-style Monday tests. Give the teams that aren't in the top 3 in the constructors an extra 1-2 days.

Yeah, make Fridays on European road course events to full length test days. Or Mondays, if you believe that testing on friday ruins the race on sunday. They should let their test drivers do the testing too. Let them have the 3rd car for the rookies.

Third car for practice only would be great.

Actually I like the 2003 rules, sign up for limited running in the season (or none, in this case) and have some extra sessions on Friday.
Want more testing in the season? Less practice on Fridays for you sir.

Timo and Jerome will be glad.
I don't think that it would be great to have hundreds of signs saying "virgin" on your car :D

Virgin will stay as sponsors though. They only ever had a 20% stake in the team anyway IIRC.

Branson got so much money, shows that F1 is not all about money.

Is Manor still involved in the team? They have been 1A in Formula 3, haven't they?

The team is still effectively Manor. I'm not sure exactly how it's constituted...

It is now Manor Competition, the F1 team is effectively still Manor Motorsport. MC is run (and I think owned) by a different group of people.

About the testing discussion, this is how I'd like to see a weekend:

Saturday: 1 hour Practice, Qualifying, 1.5 hour practice/testing with 3rd cars and reserve drivers, any engine/gearbox, any aero pieces, any number of sets of tyres.
Sunday: 1 hour Warm Up practice, Race.

No parc ferme rules. No need for a 3-day weekend. Leave friday for support series action. Allow lots of support series, make GP2/GP3 a support in every F1 weekend.

French newspaper l'Equipe announces today Charles Pic will replace Jérome d'Ambrosio next year. Set to be announced at the Brazilian GP.

Could be that Glock is out, too. Remember, he doesn't bring money. Maybe they're looking for a clean break. However stupid that may be.
