interesting

Quote:
Okay, not racing in June in Texas, in temperatures that would give the surface of Venus a run for its money, can’t be seen as a bad thing. And there’s also something to be said for actually having the circuit ready for the event. But, the choice of Nov. 18 as the new date simply shows how completely out of touch F1 is with the U.S. market.

Maybe F1’s decision-makers are not aware, but there’s a quaint little motorsport series in the U.S. called the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, commonly referred to as NASCAR.

For those in the F1 paddock who are not aware of this stock car series, it’s a bit different from grand prix racing. It features approachable drivers, open paddocks, and cars with fenders that usually race on strange tracks called ovals. It’s also the second-most watched sport in the U.S. after the National Football League and, more importantly, its season finale at the Homestead-Miami Speedway falls on the third Sunday in November.

But if they really want to try and get a foot in the door with the US market, having the race on around the same time as the NASCAR final and a NFL game won't exactly help....

Yeah they should have thought about that one before penciling it in. Maybe the 2013 race will be a more logical race date.

My dream F1 calendar would include Zaire, Iran, Honduras, Romania, Yemen, Indonesia and Slovakia. Nothing else.

A nightmare is also a dream.

Iranian Grand Prix? That'd be an explosive race. Literally.

In Bruno-Senna-replacing-Nick-Heidfeld-definitely-wasn't-a-financial-move news, Renault has 4 new sponsors, 2 of them Brazilian

Apparently the Iranian circuit is going for a Grade 2 license for now.

Embratel's links with Senna are well-established, and OGX is a company owned by the entrepreneur linked to Bruno's deal by Globo, Eike Batista.

Renault are probably hoping that Kubica doesn't come back so that they don't have to pay his salary.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Well it won't matter too much, because if Kubica can return as strong as before then he's off to join Nando in 2013. If he's lost his skill, he'll be out.

It's not about Kubica losing skill but being fully fit and having the strength in his hand and forearm. It seems a few people are forgetting about how much strength you need in you hand just to hold on to the steering wheel and move the car. How many people have gone to the local karting centre and after a 30 minute session your hands and fingers are very sore? Robert may have full use of a few of his fingers and yes that will allow him to twiddle the various knobs and buttons on the steering wheel, but what could prevent him returning full stop is not having the strength to hold the wheel and be able to control the car. He needs strength in the hands to hold on to the wheel. Jarno Trulli is a prime example to prove the point, he does many hand stretching exercises before a race to make sure his hands are flexible and do not stiffen up. Think of the stresses and loads that go up the steering column, through the streering wheel and into to the drivers hands. They are immense. Add to the the brutal force of everything else in a modern day F1 car, Kubica needs every bit of strength he can muster if he is to make a successful return to the F1 cockpit.

Something in me feels like Kubica will become the modern Alessandro Nannini, sadly :|

Same number of races.
Same number of wins.
Injured in the same team.
Next two drivers in his seat were Brazilian and German, one of whom had a succesful relative in F1 as well.

OK, the last one was a bit far fetched.
