I think its one of their showcar runs. Kimi is sponsored by Red Bull so they probably thought it'd be good to get him to drive the F1 car for Helsinki

Got to give it to Tony Stewart - the guy didn't exactly hang about when he was in the McLaren. Plus, we got to see what modern(ish) F1 cars look like around Watkins Glen... magic!

Turns out the Paffett thing was him re-signing with Merc in the DTM.

Paffett extends Mercedes DTM deal

Probably for a feature, seen as he has a BBC Sport logo on his overall.

for some reason Pirelli is giving this kind of rides to celebs rather than developers (Martin Brundle, Ken Block,...)

Looking forwards to that feature. Will improve his knowledge in the commentator boot about the tyres for sure.

Typical Lewis :
""The brakes were surprisingly good and Tony was telling me where they usually brake in the dry and I don't think I was braking too far away from it with the damp conditions. I was braking early thinking, 'this car is not going to stop' and in actual fact I could brake a lot later." Yes, we know you are the Best :)

according to Joe Saward, Team Lotus gets about $30 million a year from GE. Thats quite a lot of money. This must push their budget close to a 100m a year I recon.

It really seems they're in for the long run.

Because he has done these sort of tests before, part of a feature for Silverstone IIRC.

Also, after the Antiques Roadshow lot complained, fight back and show appreciation to the BBC

So we're gonna get all this again in February, when F1 intends to go back to Bahrain, woo.

Yeaa most likely, I very much doubt things will be back to 'normal' in Bahrain for a long time.

Reading through the list of red flagged races phil1993 posted, I came across Markus Winkelhock's wikipedia entry and remembered how awesome those first laps were at the Nürburgring back in 2007, when so many drivers went off in the rain and suddenly Winkelhock was leading in his first ever grand prix.

Quote:
Winkelhock started last on the 22-car grid alongside team mate Adrian Sutil. But on the formation lap with the rest of the field already on dry-weather tyres, the team made a last-second decision to call Winkelhock into the pits to switch to intermediate tyres. When pouring rain forced almost all the others to pit at the end of the first lap, Winkelhock was able to move into the lead, passing some cars as they pitted, and even passing Kimi Räikkönen on the track as the Finn tip-toed around to the pits, eventually building a lead of 33 seconds by the end of the second lap. By lap 4 he had a lead of 1:55.714 over Ferrari's Felipe Massa in 2nd place.

I remember how I wondered back then whether he could really win that race! Shame they never gave him a second chance. But then again, he didn't do too well in other series.

Best strategy Mike Gascoyne ever came up with, and the only time he has been right about the weather.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.
