Atlanta is absolutely the worst track to try a guarantee like that.

I have been to Atlanta for more races than I'd like to count. I've been rained on, I've dodged massive thunderstorms, been too hot, been too cold, shoes filled with six inches of standing water, I've stood under the grandstand wondering if my car would be washed away by the floodwaters building up in the parking lot, and about everything in between.

The only two things I haven't encountered at an Atlanta race is snow and a tornado - although sometimes I fear that may be inevitable.

You missed the blizzard of '93 then that pretty much wrecked the entire east coast sans Florida. I think the spring Atlanta race that year was postponed several weeks if not a month for that.

Not to mention the BGN race was postponed all the way to November.

Besides, that policy is totally backward. They should refund races that are too fucking hot, not cold. You can always put more clothes on, however I don't blame people for hating hot weather. It fucking blows.

Can confirm, it's the primary reason why I didn't go to the IndyCar race at Fontana this season because who the fuck schedules a race there in mid-June in the middle of the day?

You're right Wayne. That was the final race for Alan Kulwicki before his death the next week I believe.

That's also incorrect. It was the following week at Darlington.

NASCAR announcing the 2016 Cup Series rules package in 1 hour.

inb4 super duper high downforce over 9000 with super hard compound tires because that's what the fans/teams/drivers/everyone don't want but NASCAR does it anyway

I saw a Brad Keselowski tweet indicating they are going with a lower downforce package. Very good news. Interested to see what the details are per this upcoming press conference.

Only difference will be the radiator pan which will be 33 inches instead of 28 like at Kentucky and Darlington. This year's standard package is at 38 inches.

base aero package will include:
3.5 inch rear spoiler
0.25 inch front splitter
33 inch radiator pan

Superspeedway package will stay mostly the same as this year's but for roller lifters on the engines/different restrictor plate size

each track will have different tire & rear end gear rules

Sounds pretty promising. Hopefully they'll do even more work to make the cars less aero-dependent and difficult to drive, but this is an excellent start. Kentucky and Darlington were the best intermediate track races in ages.

just had a thought, with NASCAR basically trying to limit the engines from going over 9000RPM with different rearend gear ratios. Doesn't that put them back at square 1 as it would lower straight line speed and would lessen the amount of lost speed in the center of the corner? :slaphead:

I like that NASCAR is putting the racing back in the drivers' hands. I am optimistic about the intermediate track races next year with this package. Hopefully this package is the answer.

So they're keeping the straight splitter and not going for the stepped one?

If this keeps Harvick, Logano and Kenseth from leading 2/3rds of the races every week I'll call it a success.

JGR, Penske, and SHR are the teams most likely to flourish even more from this, so sorry :C

From what I remember, that test car with the different splitter and sides was geared toward 2017 and later so they can properly test and tweak it if it proves to be a viable option. Got my fingers crossed.

I wonder how much of a difference 5 inches makes on the pans? If it doesn't make much, then all they're doing is making the situation worse, need to cut that and the skirts off completely, who cares if the cars aren't wide open for the first few laps as long as they're hard to drive.

The tyre stuff most interesting to me.

If Goodyear can do a pirelli on next season and actually have varying tyre strategies then anything the low downforce package brings will be a bonus
