Nothing like throwing it back to high school days and getting down in a car.

Looks somewhat comparable, too.

It never ends.

How long until Bristol faces the same fate?

They should take the top 30 rows, pave it and run two races at the same damn time with the fans in the middle.

I can see it already. NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL SIDE BY SIDE RACEING

They should make the second track a designated Danica or JWT lane.

I never understood why Dover needed all those seats to begin with.

The problem with Bristol is that the fans of Bristol are complete idiots who wouldn't know good racing if it bit them in their ass.

'Good racing' is always up for debate. For some it's a side by side limbo aided by progressive banking, for some, it's bump n runs all day long. Just because traditional Bristol fans preferred the latter doesn't make them idiots.

Bristol racing is rubbish, they run a foot off the top and it takes them 50 laps to pass on the bottom

Bristol 'racing' has never been better.

Bristol 'wrecking' has declined, like the attendance.

If people say they didn't go to Bristol for the wrecks then they're lying.

That's the most utter bullshit I always hear. It's not the wrecks, it's the danger that your driver is having to pass every lap to avoid getting knocked down, the danger of crashing that's the moneymaker.

I think you just re-worded my statement.

It's not wrecking, it's the danger of wrecking?

The odds of a crash or somebody getting bumped out of the way were so high at the old Bristol, you just felt on-edge half the time. It wasn't the actual crashes as much as the anticipation that something spectacular -- good or bad -- could happen at any time. The same thing is what draws people to plate racing. It isn't so much the actual crash. You can watch that later on Youtube. It's that feeling you get watching close call after close call.

For what it's worth, yes, old Bristol had less passing. But I actually enjoyed the tense feeling it gave you. Traffic would get backed up behind a slower car and drivers would get impatient and start trying too hard to make something happen. The same thing happens at Salem Speedway, even though you run up the track there instead of the bottom, but it's still very one-groove. That's why I love watching races there even though there really isn't a ton of passing. It's just exciting watching the guys grasping at straws and trying bolder and bolder moves to make a pass. And yes, sometimes it results in a wreck, but sometimes it doesn't, and it's still exciting.

This old debate? I thought we had more or less established (maybe even through our forum's continued existence as a place more of discussion than video sharing) that race fans can very much enjoy good racing and accidents without any real conflict between the two elements of the sport.

The whole "idea" of single file high-line racing at Bristol seems to be making the low line garbage about 80% of the time, thus putting the drivers in a situation where they have just about no choice but to take the chrome horn to the guy in front of them and put him in the wall just to make a pass.

Turn every finish into a classic Earnhardt/Labonte spin 'n win situation. In theory, of course.
