That's my problem with it. It's only done to increase branding, as if there isn't enough branding across each race weekend, let alone the whole season, already.

It's the same with having the announcers push products and offers when they come back from break. I don't want to hear them talking about the 'Framily' plan, i'm already aware of it and they don't make me want to purchase it.

Say what you will about Winston, but they used the allotted advertising time to advertised their products.

I understand that it's a vast amount of money. But I'd like to see a sponsor that promotes the series, not the other way round.

So the cars being done up in red during the No Bull 5 wasn't the same? It went from a red dot to almost exactly this.

I don't understand why it's such a big deal. I went to the race this past weekend and a buddy there is new to the sport. I can't tell you how many times he asked who was already in the chase.

It's not a big deal. It's just done for cynical purposes. I think the only people who remember the No Bull 5 are all posting in this forum.

The sad part about the entire article written by one of the worst analysts on TV today is that he has several valid points. And I agree on all of them (why the fuck are they changing the cars again?).

Are they changing the cars? I personally hope they do, because they've become so aero dependent that the races always suck on the intermediate tracks. But rather than removing downforce, they'll probably add more of it, or cut horsepower, or something equally stupid.

I do agree with DW on the schedule, though.

The aero dependency is an absolute joke. When they prefer track position over 4 fresh tyres, you know there is an issue.

Every race nowadays is the aero push 400

That's exactly what they're intending to do. :slaphead:

Helton - "Brian, all the fans want us to add a road course to the Chase, what do you think"

France - "Mike, are you insane? Chicagoland Speedway is one of the most exciting tracks on the calendar, it deserves a place. Lets run that"

They know what we want, they just don't give a shit. It's all about $$, you all seem surprised by this. Better get used to aero dependent cars, and a shitty 36 week schedule to not go anywhere, you don't like it, Brian France will tell ya to lump it.

Which they are making increasingly less of.

I get what you're saying but "increasingly less" is a hilarious choice of words.

Charlie Glotzbach is remembered mostly as the driver of the Ray Nichels #99 Dodge Charger Daytona that was painted "plum crazy" purple, that was in 1969 and 1970. He also finished second in the 1969 Daytona 500 driving the #6 Cotton Owens Dodge Charger 500. He was passed on the last lap by Lee Roy Yarbrough in the Junior Johnson #98 Ford Torino Talladega. He'd raced in nascar for years before that in lesser rides. I got to watch the winged cars race late in 1969 and during most of the 1970 season, along with the slope nosed Fords and Mercurys and those winged cars were something to see going around the track.

At the fall race in Charlotte in 1981, Charlie showed up to race and I finally got to meet and talk to him. One of the most laid back, down to earth nice guys you'd ever meet. Charlie loved driving the winged cars and said with the improved tires and suspensions of the early 1980's and no restrictor plate on a hemi engine, he figured they'd average around 225mph easy at Talladega in the winged Dodges and Plymouths.

In this interview from 2005, Charlie tells it all just like it is and was, as he always did. I think his opinions on nascar racing as it was in 2005 and even more so today are spot on. The interview is repetitive and drawn out but worth reading. Check it out.

Neat to see that old Nichels Engineering picture at the bottom of the article. I live in Griffith, one block north of main street. That building still stands today, but now it's used by a plumbing company.

Earl confirmed out of RFR. Driver lineup for the team consists of Ricky "either consistently wrecking or irrelevant" Stenhouse, Jr., Greg "I only win whenever I want to" Biffle, and Trevor "Still riding off that one Daytona 500 win" Bayne.

Just like Kenseth; worst kept secret that he was leaving Roush.

Amazing how terrible RFR has become in the past 10 years.

Now to figure out where Earl is going. Maybe he'll join the Penske stable (get it? horses?).

Just had an off week.
