I think Jimmie would HAVE won it his rookie season if Mark Martin didn't take him out on the pace lat at DEGA that fall. Lol.

The funny thing is, that was the only crash all day. The race ran caution free, and every Hendrick engine in the field blew up. Jimmie still made 173 of 188 laps.. and finished 37th. He really lost the title that year at Atlanta and Rockingham with poor finishes.

They probably should paint the spoilers yellow too or I might really get confused.

Honestly, the whole yellow for Chase cars is no different than the day glow red they did for the No Bull 5 participants. I mean, personally I think the day glow red is better than yellow but it's still the same concept. This is an age where cars have different shitty schemes every week... let it go.

Also like the Nationwide Dash for Cash thing, they added blue to those cars to identify them.

Gotta give those sagging diecast sales a kick in the ass somehow.

It was nice to read Jeff Gordon speaking intelligently about the minimum speed rule.

I was thinking the same thing. But 2 notable differences are day glo red will always look more awesome than Sprint yellow, and having it on 5 cars in the field serves more purpose than having it on virtually half the field when the chase starts.

Yeah, my beef is with the Sprint yellow. Bright yellow isn't bad, like on Kenseth's Dollar General schemes, but there's something about a darker tint of yellow that makes any paint scheme awful. Seeing that mock-up of the Brad scheme is a little reassuring they won't all look that bad, but it's just... yellow is gross.

Just a personal preference, however. Feel free to disagree. :)

Richard Childress is fielding two trucks at Eldora next week for the Dillon brothers. Ken Schrader, Kyle Larson and Michael Annett are also on the entry list. Schrader is in his #00, Larson is in the #32 and Annett is in the #14 truck, a 3rd NTS Racing Entry.

Larson will win and the media will jump all over it.

Seems like there are more yellow cars this season than ever in all racing series. Charlotte painted the walls and barriers putrid yellow for the Sprint special race a few years ago and repainted it white in time for the 600 stuff a few days later. Then Brutus Smith dictated it be left yellow to save some bucks and so it is now perma-putrid yellow. RJ Reynolds used to provide free paint for their red and white walls - maybe Sprint does that at CMS.

Honestly, all this yellow paint shit does is tell non chase drivers not to race chase drivers. We might as well cut the field to 16 during the last 10 races or whatever the hell it is. No bull 5 orange made sense because no one really could remeber who finished 4th in the last no bull 5 race. Ask a fan today what the color of their favorite drivers car is and they'll go "uhhhhh go earl?."

Don't kid us NASCAR, this yellow isn't for the fans.

Your idea sounds like the Winston Open and the Winston... at every race. I don't want to see a 16 car chase race, IROC races only had 12 cars and they were boring as can be everywhere but Daytona or Talladega.

This is in reply to the post that is now down there instead of above it lol.

Might as well let the winner of the non chase race be a spoiler in the big show! Pitch this idea to Humpy Wheeler.. he'd be all over it.

A field of chase contenders only for the playoff races could be interesting. No eliminations as the playoff progresses. Shorter races, more track variety. Best driver, car and crew win as quality wreck rebuilds - including engine changes - would be a big factor. Support (shortened) race opener for the non-chase teams held prior to the playoff feature race. Non-chase sponsors would get much more TV time and be happier. And... no friggin' special paint needed on any cars.

That post (above) dropped cause I changed the post to add a quote to Tristar since his post was the seed of this.

Humpy would love it for sure, too bad Brutus and him fell out. And yeah, ynot let the non-chase winner be a wild card.

There have been quite a few damn good Open and Special races (THE WINSTON and whatever the hell the yellow logo company calls the thing in a given year) over the years. But they screw up the thing with way too many gimmicky format changes for the segments every year. This year was the most idiotic ever. And sure, some of both of the above races have been boring as hell too. CMS should not be the only track to host that deal. They could drop the Daytona clash or the WINSTON and have the double and shorter race thing in the playoff races, where it would count. But without anything different (no gimmicks) except for reasonable reductions in race distance.

Always enjoyed the IROC stuff at all tracks, Indy, Atlanta and Michigan also had good racing. The IROC stuff has been an influence on the Cup cars for a while now. Richard Petty has said since 1989 that they should manipulate spoilers and do away with the damn restrictor plates altogether.

The real shame of it is that IMSA Camel GT races used to be held at Charlotte the week before the 600 and were starting to get really good and drawing bigger crowds each year, more fans than those teams had ever raced in front of anywhere. They said so themselves. The last Camel GT at CMS in May 1984 was a very competitive race at all levels with a spirited duel for the win. Seems like it was the car 44 Jag and Holbert's Porsche, but am not sure.

What matters is it was very good racing on the infield road course and the banking and you could hear the fans hollering and cheering over the sound of the cars. Those team people were loving it as much as the fans and had never heard or seen anything like that. A few of the drivers even said they could hear the fans a little inside their cars.

It was also nice to see fine looking women in bikinis lounging in the sun in the garage area in beach recliners, drinking the beverage of their choice. The IMSA series deal was much more laid back, relaxed and fun compared to nascar, a whole other dimension and a much better racing attitude and environment, IMO.
