Don't ruin his delusion.

In more positive news, Joe Nemechek will drive the majority of the season in an MWR car.

I hope that means sponsorship for the year. Awesome either way.

Yea and let's hope it's not a deal like the TBR/Stewart-Haas one where only the Danicars were 'true' SHR cars.

About this new Chase format, what if the winner's car in the last race is seriously illegal? Will a cheater be allowed to keep the championship?

What if a team mate takes out somebody going for the title? Even if it was accidental, you'd never hear the end of it.

I wonder if this new format will attract more sponsors? I mean a middle of the pack team pulls a Front Row and they could qualify for the Chase. Makes that team much more attractive for a sponsor. On the business side, this could be very good.

Fuck all that nonsense.

I've been thinking about this (way too much) since it was announced yesterday and I think it all comes down to how one wants to experience racing. I (and it seems several of you) would much prefer to see a good, honest season in which the driver who accumulates the most points across every event is the champion. Even if it's a slaughter we can still take comfort in the fact that the title was won in a logically satisfying fashion. If the racing sucks (as it already does a lot of the time) it's because the car/tire/track equation is messed up. It's nothing to do with the points format because (as the drivers have said themselves) there's no rule you could change/add/remove that would make them race harder than they already do (100%).

Then there are the people who just want things to be always close no matter the cost or circumstances. They don't seem to care that the closeness is a fabrication, that drivers and teams with vastly different seasons are clumped together arbitrarily in the name of "excitement". They don't care that one driver who has a much better season ends up pulled back into a group of others who haven't actually performed well enough to be objectively considered to be in contention with the leader(s). There was a caller (moron) on Sirius Speedway yesterday who loved the announcement and predicted that all the detractors would change their minds once they see how "exciting" things will be when the system "works". My response would be that he (and anyone else with his mindset) just don't get it. Of course the system will "work" because it guarantees that nobody will actually win anything comfortably. The point is that the system MASSIVELY cheapens the meaning of competition solely in the name of excitement. And that (for any reasonable, proper race fan) is what is so frustratingly unsatisfying.

This guy likes his numbers! Check out ALL those different scenarios.

While it is fun to look and see who would have done what.. you can't really go by any of it, since the actual champion is the one that is marked in the record books and cashed the check and that's that.

While fun to look at, applying systems to past years makes no sense. Everyone would've raced differently.

Everyone keeps saying IT'S OK IT WILL BE EXCITING!!!!111 Yes, it will be.

However,

We ALL bitch about fake debris cautions and mysterious yellows. Take the 24 hour race for example. EVERYONE bitched and said HURR DURR IT'S JUST LIKE NASCAR NOW, SO FAKE, LOL. But the finish was more exciting, wasn't it? It felt fake as shit, but it was more exciting.

So, it is NOT ok to fabricate excitement at the race level, but it IS ok to do it at the championship level??? This points system is the ultimate fake debris caution. How can any of you be ok with it? If you are, never ever bitch about fake debris cautions again.

O I MAD

Good 2014 rule changes: the qualifying system

Bad 2014 rule changes: everything else.

I'm with what's suggested earlier, make the final race Daytona or Talladega and end the season with the random crapshoot the want it to be.

When it comes to raw excitement throughout the year I can see 2014 being one of the best seasons...the "glory days" of NASCAR (80's-90's) werent THAT exciting folks, hate to break it to you. Two things have made the sport fall off since the Brian France reign and one you cant really blame him for. First off the original Chase formats promoted POINTS RACING instead of racing for wins, and that I feel has made a lot of drivers soft. The quality of drivers definitely is lacking from a generation ago...biggest "fan" enemies back then were Gordon and Earnardt, and they were tough as hell, mess with them they will mess with you. Now only a small handful of drivers have that mentality. Otherwise you've got half asses like Greg Biffle and a slew of others.

So whats gonna change this year? Well the first problem may have been solved this new format promotes wins, and a guaranteed slugfest at the finale is NOT a bad thing if you want excitment. Also 2014 has one of the biggest shifts in driver roster in a long time. More rookies than the last three years combined, and veteran driver switches. This is a make or break year. The start of a new successful era or just continuing down the path of demise. Definitely will have me watching.

To be fair Jr had a really good season last year.

But if this new system is supposed to put the emphasis on winning…. Dale Jr didn't win a race in 2013? :?

Would be gratifying if it happened again.

But not quite as gratifying as someone like Whitt\Kligermann winning the title through pulling a Ragan and then having the weather get them to Homestead.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I highly doubt they have the resources to make it past the first elimination round of the chase. Ragan might have made it, but he'd be long gone by the final 4.
