Well it looks like IMS won't be getting lights installed... as of right now.

Quote:
Indiana Motorsports Commission approves modifications to IMS: The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced plans on Tuesday for track modifications and upgrades to enhance fan experience that include additions of track aprons in the turns for NASCAR events, new video screens, improved catch fencing, a new scoring pylon and improved restroom facilities. The list of proposed improvements carries a price tag of about $140 million, according to Jeff Belskus, Hulman & Company president and chief administrative officer. The project does not include lights for the facility -- a $20 million project in itself -- because it was determined that lights did not bring a strong enough return on investment. The project also includes the recently completed repaving and renovations to the road course that will be used for an IndyCar race scheduled for May 10, 2014. The plans were approved by the Indiana Motorsports Commission. The plans also outlined the need for increased concession choices, more on-site entertainment, improved access and improved traffic flow and parking. Wireless access throughout the facility was also addressed as a priority to enhance the fan experienced. The apron only will be used for NASCAR racing and will cost less than $1 million

Great news! The sport has plenty of night races as it is. Lights are nice to have in the event of inclement weather, but I honestly believe more races should be run during the day. Charlotte and Richmond now have both dates run at night, and moving one of them to a day race wouldn't turn everyone's world upside-down. The only night race I ever went to was the 2002 Pennsylvania 500 (lolz), and we got to the hotel so friggin' late, it was exhausting.

I'd hate to see the power bill for a weekend's worth of night races... then again, I'm sure it's just a drop in the bucket for whoever's promoting\paying for the event. Also seems like a cost that could potentially be avoided, I guess.

Officially Austin Dillon will drive the 3 next year with sponsorship from Cheerios and Dow Chemical.

Oh well.

Sad to see the #3 back again in the Cup series.

I think it's good to see the #3 back. The #43 is still out there, so is the #21. Why can't the 3 be there? Because Dale died? That's crap.

If they retired every on track death numbers there would be a lot missing. Also #3 is Childress' number for now, not Earnhardt's. And no, Earnhardt did not walk on water.

Can't wait to see the #3 back on track! As for the Dillons, Ty's a whiny bitch, but Austin's more level-headed and I don't mind him nearly as much.

#43 is fielded nowadays by Petty himself and #21 relates more to the Wood Brothers than the drivers that have driven with it. Sure RC can do what he want with it, it's his number. But it just feels wrong IMO, but I guess the rich kid can have whatever he wants.

Enough time has gone by since Dale died for the 3 to be around. I just wish that they didn't have a complete douche driving it. You can wear a cowboy hat, you can be a preppy rich kid, and you can have stubble but when you have all three together it makes me want to punch you in the face for a while.

They've been running mock races, 30-40 laps each, including a pace truck and cautions.

There has been 1 lead change all day.
