Anyone has any idea of what he was going through that could make him make the terrible decision of taking his own life?

This could have something to do with it. Have not read the article yet. The comments on the last link mentioned something about him having lost his grandaughter as well and that he never got over that.

R.I.P. Dick Trickle. Shocking news. :(

Foul play afoot with the Cobb/Harmon thing?

A nut was found in the 6th cylinder in @JenJoCobb's engine. The team could not resolve upon completion of practice. Status for tonight: TBD

Oh c'mon. She has enough trouble making races without having things stolen and sabotaged.

I know very little about the inner workings of an engine. Is there any chance that could have been the result of a malfunction or honest error in the garage?

no, the only way to achieve that is to drop the nut in while the plugs are out, that's a really big mistake if it is.

Her crew has a lot of experience working with shitty, low-budget engines. Usually they don't find any bugs until she hits the track and her engines fall apart like paper mache within the first 30 laps.

Or any road course, for that matter (especially Road America).

I race at the LaCrosse Speedway in WI. Dick is said to have over 100 feature wins at that track, although nobody knows the exact number. I believe they can account for 104, but he had wins in so many series and over such a long period of time that 104 does not account for them all. I was racing in the Oktoberfest special a few years ago and Dick was running in the ASA Midwest Tour and his pit stall was right across from ours. All day long he had a cup of coffee and a cigarette in hand unless he was actually going out. That night he was in a match race with one other short track legend and between the end of practice and his match race, he had gotten ahold of a couple of Pabsts. He went out and ran alright, but his interview before it was epic. The thing about the whole time he was at the track for the 4 day event was that in the pits, everybody knew who he was, but he was just one of the guys, like an old friend coming home. Good guy and great character. He will be missed.

Marty Smith is reporting on Twitter that Bruton is 70% sure he's moving the fall Charlotte race to Vegas. Smoke screen for talk of wanting the All Star race moved?

Also here's my thought of how the format should be 4 segments 30-20-8-2. Random inversion after the 30. No pitting, gotta pit when you need to during seg 1 or 2 not between. After seg 2 a 5 min break. Then 8 laps. People will race for a t5. Then a GWC cuz, well we all know it'll make it better. so its basically the old 30-20-10 with a GWC.

Put the fucking Charlotte fall race back to a daytime slot! Idiots. Gotta get these cars slipping and sliding. Only way to improve the racing on the 1.5 milers. Cars are so fast and so glued to the track that they really can't race.

Or cut the spoiler in half. That'll loosen them up.

Stop with all the good ideas, no place for that in NASCAR.

Pretty soon Smith will be lobbying for the Daytona 500 to be raced in Vegas.
