So, if in reading this right Jeremy Mayfield called into a MRN radio show that Brian France was on earlier this evening. He asked if he could come back to NASCAR. From what I am finding on twitter France told him to complete the Road to recovery program and it would be a start. France approved the call to let Jeremy on the show.

Edit: found a link http://aol.sportingnews.com/nascar/stor ... -drug-test

Even if he completed the Road to Recovery and was cleared of all charges. Who in Nascar would take a chance on him?

He could do what he did before he got kicked out and start his own team.

I highly doubt he could come up with the capital to start a team. Given that he just filed for bankruptcy and lost his home.

Mayfield waited four years to late to decide go down the right path in order to save his career. Truth be told, his Cup career in Nascar was already coming to end before his positive test. Poor performance and public feud with Evernham didn't help.

NASCAR working on track-drying system to shorten rain delays

Quote:
According to MRN.com, NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France set a goal of speeding up the track-drying process by 80 percent. NASCAR’s Research and Development center has been developing the new machine.

"Our group in the R&D center went right to work on that,” France said Tuesday night on MRN’s "NASCAR Live." “We engaged third-party help and we'll have it for Daytona. We won't be at 80 percent, but we're going to be dramatically better with a whole new system on how to dry the track as much as 60 percent (faster) and we will get to the 80 percent goal."

The ultimate goal is to dry a 2.5-mile track like Daytona in 30 minutes instead of two hours and a short track like Martinsville Speedway in 15 minutes.

I'm all for it. Some of the rain delays are poorly handled.

Brian France actually put something in motion that didn't just fuck things up further?

Ok then.

I do wonder how this new system would work.

I still like my "roll-out tarps" idea. :)

Basically, it would be sections of tarp rolled up on some kind of mechanism outside the catchfencing. There would be slits in the fence to allow the tarp through, to be rolled out and attached to some sort of hook in the infield grass.

Tracks would also need a sophisticated draining system, but you could theoretically have a storm of Pocono proportions (which I was in the middle of in August), without getting the track too wet.

Of course, this idea works marvellously in my mind. haha

I'm all for it if a track like Daytona can be dried in 30 mins.

Waltrip to drive the #30 in Daytona 500: Michael Waltrip, a two-time Daytona 500 champion, will pilot Swan Racing's #30 Toyota in the 2013 "Great American Race," reuniting him with former crew chief Tony Eury Jr. The race marks Swan Racing's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut since announcing its new ownership this month. "I am thrilled to drive the #30 Toyota for Swan Racing and the chance to win a third Daytona 500," said Waltrip about the one-race deal. "Reuniting with Tony Jr. and Steve Hmiel brings back a lot of good memories and is going to create new ones."
"Swan Racing is here to compete and to build a championship contender," said Swan Racing owner Brandon Davis who has vowed to end the practice of habitual "start and parks" for the team. "This one-race partnership with Michael puts a two-time champion behind the wheel and the #30 in the mix at the Daytona 500."
"This is a great move for Swan Racing," said David Stremme who will be the regular driver of the #30 Toyota. "Michael and I have been friends for a long time. We got to talking last year and from my perspective I thought this would help to further our relationship with Toyota and be a good building block for Swan Racing."
Swan Racing is building its team from the ground up by hiring veterans of the sport who share a common long-term vision for success. Steve Hmiel, named competition director last week, has over 35 years of experience as a crew chief, car chief and competition director. Tony Eury Jr. will be the crew chief for the #30 Toyota. "Michael is a familiar face for a lot of us here at Swan Racing," said Eury. "We know each other's habits, wants and needs on the track. We're going to Daytona to compete and hopefully we'll make a mark for Swan Racing."(Swan Racing)(1-10-2013)

That's actually a very smart move for a that team. I really hope they are true to not starting and parking.

Sucks for Stremme but maybe they will run the actual team car for Stremme. I have a feeling this 30 car is an MWR car just like the 40 Miley ran last year.

The pre season stream is a hell of a lot better than last years IMO. I've had no problems at all this year with my terrible Internet.

Danica having drive train problems and ghosts haunt her hotel room.

Apparently we have twitter hash tags on the roofs of cars now and the shark fends are clear now

The shorter the rain delays are the better. The idea sounds promising, hopefully it works the way they are expecting it to.

If Waltrip's gonna be in the #30, then I hope Country Time Lemonade sponsors him.

Pennzoil would be acceptable too (They can be on two cars, that's fine)

Was just gonna say, all this idea needs is a retro tribute scheme (Waltrip's no stranger to running those anyway).

Out of those three choices, I'll just answer "yes" because all three would be acceptable.

I think Michael Waltrip's facial expression in the Pennzoil picture makes him look like a fish.
