I tried talking my dad into going to Daytona this year but money is way to tight.

As a person that has been to both the 500 and 400, go to the 400. The night time atmosphere is fun and it's always been cheaper to go to the July race... well for me anyway.

I wish we could go to the July race but it is impossible for us right now. We run a small seasonal business where we are the only two people working 9-11 hours a day 6 days a week.

BTW, I have some advice for everyone reading this. Never start your own small business unless you have a hell of an idea and you are prepared to work long hours.

And don't ever work with family, you will argue about the stupidest of shit.

Introducing The Sprint Unlimited (ghey name)...

Quote:
Sprint will sponsor Shootout: Sprint has partnered with Daytona International Speedway to sponsor the Sprint Unlimited At Daytona, the fan-favorite non-points event formerly known as the Daytona Shootout that traditionally kicks off the stock car portion of Budweiser Speedweeks 2013 and the NASCAR season. The race will once again be held under the lights on Saturday night, Feb. 16 (FOX 8 pm/et) but will feature several new elements that will make this event even more of a fan favorite. Fans in attendance will be eligible to receive special upgraded race experiences from Sprint including roles as Grand Marshal, Honorary Starter, and trophy presenter. Fans can also help deliver the trophy to Gatorade Victory Lane or participate in driver introductions during pre-race ceremonies. As announced earlier in the year, the format for selecting the field of drivers in the invitation-only event will return to its roots for 2013. The eligible field of drivers will consist of pole winners from the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and past winners of The Sprint Unlimited who have attempted to qualify for at least one race during the 2012 season. The field for The Sprint Unlimited is currently at 22 drivers and features a who's who of NASCAR stars.(DIS)(1-7-2013)

I'm surprised NASCAR hasn't made up a rule to put Keselowski in the shootout yet.

give them time (but it does seem kind of stupid the reigning champion isn't in an exhibition race).

It does but at the same time, it's the kind of upset that bolsters the importance of winning a pole again and gives meaning to this race. Maybe this year, the #2 team will try harder to win a pole so they can get into the 2014 Shootout, I mean Unlimited.

"Unlimited" doesn't really go with the rules package considering the field is limited to 2012 pole sitters...

They could always run a qualifier like they did in 99 or 00? I think the winner (Earnhardt) was the only one that transferred?

Pre Season testing at Daytona starts Thursday! 35 cars are scheduled to be there.

This would be particularly awesome.

They had the Bud Shootout Qualifier in 1998-2000. In order to race in the Bud Shootout Qualifier you had to be the fastest in second round qualifying from the year before. Note: This was at time when Nascar had first and second round qualifying.

Earnhardt only raced the qualifier in 1998 (finished 3rd). He was not eligible for the Qualifier in 1999 and 2000.

And that none of the cars are exactly unlimited either, with restrictor plates preventing the engines from running at full whack....

So, if in reading this right Jeremy Mayfield called into a MRN radio show that Brian France was on earlier this evening. He asked if he could come back to NASCAR. From what I am finding on twitter France told him to complete the Road to recovery program and it would be a start. France approved the call to let Jeremy on the show.

Even if he completed the Road to Recovery and was cleared of all charges. Who in Nascar would take a chance on him?

Not even James Finch would take him. His career's over after that debacle.

The first part of Road to Recovery is to admit to what you did, in Mayfield's case this would involve admitting not just that he was a meth head, but also he lied, made up shit about Brian France and co. and is generally a paranoid schizo.

Can't see that hapenning anytime soon.
