It's always going to be a measure of impact on the sport, which is not purely about stats and win rates. Does Mark Martin deserve to be in the HoF? I would argue that he does, considering his respect level among competitors, longevity in the sport and competitiveness across most of that career. But although he's got a pretty good win count he hasn't won a championship or any of the big races. On the other hand is Dale Jarrett HoF material? Although he's a champion and has won more than a few big races, to me he isn't. I guess all that says is that everyone's criteria for greatness is different and hall of fames much like the Oscars are a marketing tool with no scientific value.

I will be disappointed if the NASCAR hall of fame doesn't include Wendell Scott or Janet Guthrie, their impact on the sport makes them worthy although their stats don't.

Taylor Earnhardt gets married: Taylor Nicole Earnhardt and Brandon Samuel Putnam were married on the 26th of May, 2012 at the Earnhardt Estate in Mooresville, North Carolina. Earnhardt, 23, is a professional rodeo competitor and devotes herself to supporting the Dale Earnhardt Foundation, a charitable organization that is dedicated to children, education and wildlife preservation. She is also the Director of Equestrian Development for Dale Earnhardt Incorporated. She is currently studying in equine business, reproduction and training to use in her future endeavors. She is the daughter of Dale and Teresa Earnhardt of Mooresville, North Carolina. Her father, seven-time NASCAR Champion Dale Earnhardt, was the co-founder of Dale Earnhardt Incorporated. Her mother Teresa is the co-founder and current CEO of Dale Earnhardt Incorporated based in Mooresville, North Carolina. Putnam, 25, is the owner of Hi Tech Incorporated, a grading and trucking company in Charlotte, North Carolina. He also competes in rodeo professionally and is an avid hunter. He graduated from Central Piedmont Community College and received a degree in Fire Science. He is the son of Sam and Julie Putnam of Charlotte, North Carolina. His father Sam is a retired landscape and grading company owner and CEO, and his mother Julie is an accountant and financial manager for several grading and land care companies in Charlotte, North Carolina.(5-30-2012)

Where's the drama?

The continuing theme of the season is the fans' complaints that the racing has been somewhat dull. Whether or not you enjoy the long green-flag stretches, the stats say that late-race drama is down from last year, even though last year is tough to top.

Take these facts into consideration:

• There have been three races this season with margins of victory of more than three seconds. There were two such races all of last season.

• There's only been one race with a lead change in the final 10 laps this season. Fifteen of 36 races last season had a lead change in the final 10 laps.

• Four of the 12 race winners this season led at least the final 40 laps. Only four of the 36 winners last season led at least the final 40 laps.

Well, now I feel old.

We're a long way from Theresa holding her in her arms on the final lap at Daytona in '90, only to have her burst into tears shortly after.

I was thinking more like late 90s early 00s when she was getting all grown up, but alas my chance to marry into the family is over.
