I just hope they don't make it so the cars over heat too much to the point even casual drafting causes concern

I doubt that's much of a concern. They work closely enough with the teams to know how far is too far to push. And even if there is an issue, there's still two days of testing to spot it. Even if there aren't any failures, I'm sure the teams will be able to see if there were any lurking issues when they get back to their shops and break down the engines.

I remember today when Joey was trying to catch up to Kyle and tandem draft, and he couldn't make it up to his bumper until a lap or 2 later. Maybe the increase in speed will make it harder to actually get hooked up, not so much the staying hooked up?

I'm really enjoying watching this year's testing since it's actually trying new things like this.

Hermie Sadler just now reporting that NASCAR wants to see at least a 10-15 car pack in the afternoon session to see how the speeds among other things are affected.

It's still more difficult though, and the increase in throttle response/power with the new plate will only make it more difficult.

I only heard a small bit, but there was a little talk on Sirius this morning that there is a little rumbling among the fans about the increase in speeds being a concern. I really hope NASCAR does give this an honest shot though and at least lets the Bud Shootout run with the new rules before making any more changes. They will still be slower than they were running in the mid 1980s while the current cars and tracks are safer by a gargantuan margin. Of course that's not to say bad things can't/won't happen but I still think it's a very relevant point. If the racing sucks or there is another problem with this tweak, that's another issue entirely. But if things look exciting and the tandem is broken, then maybe they should stick with it indefinitely.

The 24 just ran a 195 avg for a single car run... should be fun to see these guys drafting.

These speeds are crazy for restrictor plates.

Carl Edwards was saying there was a bump in turns 3 and 4 that wasn't there before... good to see the character-building of the new surface has begun. :) Slowly but surely.

Judging by Kenny Wallace's tweets ("I have teammate." and "I will help John Wes Townley when he drives for RABRacing Truck"), he knows what the deal is. It's really too bad he might end his career being a mentor to someone so hopeless behind the wheel. :(

A couple MWR cars have run 204 in tandem drafting this morning. No packs out there yet, and still mostly single car running so far.

By the way, I saw they keep the tiny spoilers for the whole season. The cars need to be looser on the intermediate tracks.
