Zippy posted that he's not driving the #42 this weekend. Garrett Smithley is going to drive the truck instead. Smithley is one of Zippy's best friends and helped him get started in his racing career.

Funny that Nascar gave 2 weeks off to NBC to broadcast the olympics, because since is in Tokyo the live events will be during the late night/early morning in America which will be no problem to other prime time sports

NBC re-airs literally everything major regarding to team USA from the Games during the day when in a different time zone

before the last Summer Olympics in Brazil everything was tape delayed to the prime-time slots also

-

NASCAR said they did it this way because didn't want to have races on USA or CNBC for Cup

the USA one is weird because it's more homes than NBCSN tho

there will still be Busch races during the time, doesn't affect Trucks as they are on FOX

I assume IndyCar will be off during one of these weeks also

Yeah and there'll be a European Championship Football tournament around then too, so expect most major European series to hide from that too :o

DW might be calling it quits after this year.

It was made official today that Sonoma will be DW's last race in the booth.

A few years late. I really hope they get another CC in there that hasn't been out of the game for too long. Or a driver. Not Mcmurray though. I don't think he has the voice for it. Personally I don't think Harvick does either. There's a voice range I also look for. Joys voice is more towards the deep side, Gordon's is higher and soft. A voice similar to the pitch of Larry Mac's would be a good median.

IMO, I loved NBCs trio of Bestwick, Benny and Wally. It was the closest to the ESPN days of Jenkins, Benny and Ned with a lower average age.

Also, I don't mind the dates of races, the shake up was needed and shows that in 2021, a shake up of tracks are in play. God please bring the trucks to Lime Rock.

They need to resurrect Ben Parsons from the dead and bring him back in the booth.

Every time I watch an older clip or race with Benny Parsons commentating, I'm still blown away by how damn good he was. Amazing voice, knowledgeable, funny, and genuinely a fan of the sport. When you grow up listening to him every week, it's easy to lose perspective.

BP was the man. I can't remember if it was the Nascar 99 or 2000 game, but BP dropping the, "This track has the best food!" line was the best.

The thing about Benny was none of it seemed like a put on. Nothing seemed to be an act for television. He legit seemed like an awesome person, and probably a hell of a lot of fun to sit down and listen to over dinner.

I know his best days were with the ESPN crew, but I loved the chemistry he developed with Wally in the NBC booth as well.

Yes, you need someone with a resonant voice. Or someone who's taken a broadcasting class. DW is overdue to step away, but the laughable part of the Jenna Fryer article was the way she talked up the recent drivers-turned-commentators. By and large they add very little to a broadcast, and often detract from it. Jeff Gordon has the most use in terms of content, but his voice is too quiet.

It's actually really difficult to find drivers that can go into the booth and broadcast. Especially now, when they all go to PR coaching and display minimal personality as drivers.

Him, Sterling Marlin, and Hermie Sadler would be a dream team.
