Oh how I have missed Suzuka. My favorite circuit by far, and the one that drivers so unanimously love thanks to its high-speed flowing nature. True challenge that punish from mistakes. Typically races here suck, but I couldn't care less. Like Monaco, it's better with an attitude where you don't expect overtaking. For both, qualifying is the main event of the weekend.

Sunday has cleared in forecasts. Might not see much running on Friday though.

Glad to see the sun forecast as for the first time since I can remember I'm tired of all these wet races in the series I follow.

Suzuka might not produce the best racing overall but it has one of the best flows overall (compared only to Spa and Interlagos). Onboards and sim experience is quite a delight (and a challenge)

Suzuka is one of those bogey circuits for me which I can never, ever get right or be comfortable around. Every corner up to spoon is annoying for me.

For me Degner and 130R (both the new and old) are quite a bitch to get it right. Or I go too slow and lose a lot of lap time or I carry too much speed and go off

with wet tarmac so is an impossible task

I usually have this problem, and this makes it even more awesome to watch old videos of Schumacher or Vettel completely locked into the groove.

Hopefully there's some action on Friday. Would suck to wake up at 6 am (I know, it's not bad for us Finns) only to find out they won't come out from the pits. Interestingly FP2 has been extended by 30 minutes to allow Pirelli test their prototype tyres. But looks like only wet tyres can be tested (hopefully they brought some).

I think conditions that we had in 2004 are now too extreme for F1.

funny that 2004 was one of those peculiar seasons that didn't had any wet track racing

I find the chicane to be the trickiest corner in sims. I usually outbrake myself there in the first handful of laps. Especially because I get progressively quicker through 130R for each lap, too

I think that's a bit of a stretch. Russia 2021 and Turkey 2020 come to mind, but there have been plenty of surprisingly wet GPs in the last couple of years. They also literally cancelled all running on the Saturday in 2004 due to conditions being too extreme. I don't think anybody expected qualifying to restart at Spa last year, but they sent the cars out.

I think the bigger problem at the moment is the total lack of consistency from race control about what is 'too wet'.

it was the height of the Rainkiller 3000, created and developed my Max Mosley to enforce boring racing

actually Malaysia had a few drops, Monza start rather wet but dried before lap 5 and Interlagos was quite moist but no rain

For me it's the left before the Degners and the first half of Spoon. In both corners I'm either understeering off track or approaching too slowly.

I only joined TBK in october of 04, ironically to get videos from those Friday sessions in Japan :lol:

Looks like Friday will be ok and most of the rain will hit on Sunday. AM or (late) PM is still unsure.
Edit: Friday looking like a washout now, Sunday dry-ish

What a shockingly rare occurrence I never thought I'd get to see...the wet Pirelli tire actually gets to experience conditions it was designed for.
