McLaren has a good performance so far, let's see if they keep the form in dry

Score 1 for the sprint race format at least

To get a wet qualy you have to have it at 5pm on a Friday evening, and I'd much rather have watched that old school qualy session with mistakes, sliding, no grip and red flags than whatever standard, run to program qualy we'd have got at 2pm on a Sat afternoon in the dry

Norris and Magnussen must be thankful too

nice session

Well, I hate to be THAT guy, but what happened to the application of the rules? The rules state that if you stop on track and cause a red flag then you are to take no more part in qualifying. KMag, stopped on track, a Red Flag was shown stopping the session, yet he was allowed to continue with the session.

It doesn't matter if the Red Flag was premature, it was shown and the session stopped for a car that was stationary on the track. So under the rules KMag should not have been allowed to continue.

Also with Max setting his fastest lap under yellow. Yes he lifted by alot, but his fastest time was still set under yellow flag conditions, and we are then falling into subjective territory if we say well he lifted by a second (going through a yellow zone in the wet) so that's enough. Was Leclerc or anyone else also on a fast one and bailed out of the lap as they came across the yellow? I thought any faster times that are set going through a yellow flag zone are null and void, for the very reason of taking away any ambiguity, well he slowed by half a second so that is enough, track was evolving etc...

I know what the two counter arguments are, KMag didn't receive any outside assistance, and the track was evolving and Max demonstrated that he slowed, but they are still both in breach of the rules, KMag in particular.

But wait, I thought Masi was the issue and he's gone?

He was. The problem as pointed out on here before the season started is that his two replacements are just as bad as he was.

Double waved yellow you need to abandon the lap, single yellow you just need to lift in those mini sectors. Verstappen lifted and downshifted, he was already 1.2 seconds up in sector 2, but only bettered the pole time by 0.7 seconds. So he clearly slowed and lost probably a second. Jolyon Palmer explained that straight away on live commentary, no need to create controversy where there is none.

The weather conditions might have “saved” Max too. Because it was drying up, the times improved massively. So even by slowing down enough under the rules it was easy to still improve. In a full dry quart I doubt that lap would stick

It wouldn't even have been a controversy if race control didn't do their usual "Lets wait for the front runners to complete their laps before throwing the red" procedure

Something is either dangerous or it isn't immediately, not 45 secs to 1 min afterwards

Bottas was a danger there so they should've gone straight red when Max was probably in sector 2, he did lift off and he did lose time but none of them should've been given the chance to improve their laptimes in the first place

Bottas' are apparently a continuation of what caused him to stop in quali

It's ok, we're only here in Imola with cars that can suddenly lose a lot of grip through bouncing over the bumps, nothing to be concerned about... :whistling:

Sky is cheering for sprint races even though it is still 3 hours away. Must be Liberty again telling broadcasters to hype it, like we learned from an inside source last year. Good thing there's only 2 of them after this weekend.

Yeah, media are running with the Liberty propaganda. Sometimes Brundle cuts the bait with a one-liner but that's the most we can expect

I guess that's a reason Brundle isn't around this weekend?

And no, I'm not looking forward to a weekend with Ant Davison and Dour Di Resta on comms either
