In the ACC game, the way it works is you only get a penalty if you gain time on your delta in that track section (not the whole sector, just that portion). Otherwise you'd rack up a penalty after a few laps.

Perhaps they're doing something similar here, instead of counting one strike the second the last tyre leaves the white line. I suspect they do, given that Perez was not penalised in Q1 after he went wide at the final turn but lost time.

Edit: now that I remember it, even in the game that lenience is in the race only. In qualy your time is invalidated the second you leave the track

Working my way through the latest season of DTS. Obviously there's a lot of missing details and glaring factual errors. But I really can't believe that Fernando Alonso's heroic defense against Hamilton in Hungary was mentioned at all. Very disappointing.

Having said that, I think the Russell/Bottas collision at San Marino was shown in a more clear and correct way.

Interesting detail in Aussie pay TV's continued monopoly of F1 broadcasts

Quote:
The new deal will also see the F1TV app integrated into Foxtel set top boxes in what is an Australian-first initiative.

Might mean something similar is headed for Sky and other pay tv services?

would depend on the market, Australia is alot easier to do that when FOX has a virtual monopoly on the cable/sat marketplace

USA is a whole another can of worms; would need 4 to 7 deals if they wanted it on the majority of set-top boxes here (only companies that service all major markets is DirecTV and Dish with their satellite service. Cable is localized where the big players (Comcast, Spectrum, Frontier, AT&T etc.) barter over ownership of markets, lines and in some cases - home market broadcasts for MLB/MLS/NBA/NHL teams

according to Adam Stern, the rumored Las Vegas night race is expected to be run in November

judging by this - that would mean earliest possible start for a night race would be around 7 PM Pacific / 10 PM Eastern / 2 AM GMT

if it's on a Sunday - television suicide globally (decent time in Asia but on a Monday), would run directly against Sunday Night Football nationally (horrible idea if they are trying to grow the series here in the states)
if it's on a Saturday - would work a little better in Europe & Asia; would have to fight with college football over TV space nationally

(if it was me; screw it and just take the usual big boxing/UFC match start time of 9 PM Pacific on Saturday night - that way it's a little better for Europe / nearly the same start times as Australia. Would hurt the US-East Coast a bit but not as bad with it being Saturday night)

what drugs are they on, 30 races........ are you out of your damn mind? 23 is already overkill logistically

This is literally a carbon copy of the same mistake NASCAR made in the late 90's / early 00's when they expanded the schedule to 38 weeks

They're looking at NASCAR and thinking they can do that many but they're not understanding just why NASCAR can do it and F1 will be an impossible drain on everyone involved.

another problem is that instead of looking to go to more races in Europe where is the main fanbase and have more legacy tracks, they keep looking to go far and far away

of couse teams could ask for more money from Liberty given the burden they might face

plus, why not do in Vegas the opposite from what they do in Abu Dhabi, place the race start very early in the morning like 5am, while is still dark and in a proper time for european audiences (and without competition from other sports)

because venues like to make money too. event times need to be attractive to potential attendees

plain sportswashing

the problem with ticket sales is that tracks should be allowed some places for local sponsors instead of the whole track to be sorrounded by Aramco, Pirelli and Crypto boards and not just the race naming rights

It gets worse:

So if Putin hadn't invaded Ukraine this year, this would be the final Spa contract and Liberty would've dropped it in favour of more races in the middle east/America?
And they still might?

Yeesh

This seems like a good time to remind everyone that Bernie dipped into his own pocket to bring Spa back in 2004.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Knowing Bernie, he probably had a hidden agenda that bettered him.

I know this is easy to say, but I seriously will be cancelling my TV package with F1 if Spa gets dropped.

And then they all fell out again in 2006 IIRC?

2003 and 2006 were nice F1 seasons yet didn't contain visits to Belgium, which was a waste

The absence in 2006 appears to be related to the track not being ready on the given date due to ongoing upgrades.
