Finally they showed the official replays.

What's wrong with you and your hunger to see bad accidents? Do you get a hard on from seeing people get hurt in racing cars or something?

Seriously, after 18 years as a member you start picking on me? I don't believe it.

And that remark is ironic, because don't forget, this very forum was originally created for sharing crash videos - long before YouTube. By hunting footage of accidents, we are documenting motorsport history at the same time. There's nothing wrong with wanting to know exactly what and how all happened.

I can only assume Fabs was being sarcastic.

I hope so. But why clutter the thread with spontaneous sarcasm? :o

Why clutter the thread bitching about them not showing the replay fast enough?

Only about 10 years ago they used to show the replays right away, without knowing the driver's condition (Kubica '07, Massa '09).
Has the moral zeitgeist affected everyone?

People will get a heart attack, because they think there's been a fatal accident. Grosjean's wife told that she thought for 2 minutes her husband is dead, even though the director could see him walk away much earlier. That's unacceptable. Once all drivers have been confirmed to be conscious, there's nothing graphic to be censored.

Same here. I didn't saw a crash because my stream was really bad, then refreshed, saw Red Flag, comments like huge crash and a bad amateur footage from bottom of Eau Rouge where the only thing I could see was big pile of cars and one rolled which looked like was splitted in half just like Hubert one (thankfully it was only gearbox missing).

What the hell happened there? Seems like everybody got caught out by oil or water, or both.

That slowmo is straight out of a movie. This can go bad even with the Halo, it can't protect from all cockpit intrusions when cars are bouncing around in all sorts of different angles

perhaps they could put more sensors on the drivers to check for conditions in the moment the crash happens

plus the aesthesics of the crash looks like those when we used to bunch cars in pile ups in old racing games

Yes is the answer to that question and it's a good thing.

I disagree. I hope to see immediately what happened and follow the aftermath from TV. It's reassuring to see professionals at work rather than bite your nails amidst a total darkness and lack of information. Not knowing is a horrible feeling.

Before 2010s it didn't even occur to me that replays or aftermath shouldn't be shown. It was just natural that whatever happened, we would always be well-informed. Yet, in the current era of hyperspeed information, progress seems to have gone in reverse. I think the main reason for the change is the rise of social media and the consequent fear of moral backslash. Bad publicity can easily ruin business nowadays - it only needs a few twitter posters.
If only it was the only negative aspect of the social media...*sigh*.

An example of the nasty type of 'fan'. The kind of person who's just here for the crashes.

We do not need replays of serious crashes to keep being played over while the condition of the driver/s involved is unknown. You are NOT going to know if they're okay watching a nasty crash over and over again.

That super slowmotion was just insane.

Well that escalated quickly! Shades of Surfaces Paradise 2002 there minus the blinding spray. Glad that everyone is ok.

I give it 10 years before even showing a replay will be considered bad taste even if everyone is fine

In public life and old media maybe. In private life, i.e. the internet, you will have unlimited access to gory material beyond your wildest dreams, as is the trend we've been on for 20 years now.

This is also receeding. Live Leak has been shut down. All gore subreddits such as "watch people die" are banned and deleted.

There will always be pockets of lawlessness here and there, but it may become less accessible to the uninitiated public than it has been so far.

We will see. Personally I prefer that content available. I will admit to morbid curiosity being a driver behind my interest, but it's also because some of these videos are educational at times. I became a lot more aware of my surroundings, and a way more cautious and defensive driver/rider/pedestrian.

for me, you only get a real sense of the physicality, forces, and speed these vehicles achieve when something goes wrong. i don't wish injury on anyone, but i love watching physics played out in such a dramatic way. there is a morbid beauty to it

There's also the perspective of an archivist. As a data-hoarder, it makes a great difference whether we're stuck with only amateur angles or get the official camera angles during the coverage. Even details like resolution, bitrate or codec settings are things that matter when you're a video collector. You become very anal about the footage. :p

My wet dream would be having a remote access to the feeds that the director has, including all the CCTV cameras. You could choose whatever you want to see, whenever to see, without anyone making decisions on your behalf. It would be like the holy grail version of F1TV. :excited: I'd pay 1000€ for a subscription, but alas, it's not something that money can buy.
