I hope all teams or at least half of the field boycotts the Sprint Race by pitting on a warm-up lap. If not, then hopefully we see Hungary 2004 type of boredom forcing Brawn to admit (yeah right) the whole thing was a mistake.
Well, at least the weather should be dry. The thing I was afraid was British rainy weather during the sprint race, creating chaotic spectacle that would be used as an argument for making sprint races permanent from 2022 onwards. But whatever happens, I guess it's inevitable. The more gimmicks, the better for Liberty Media. Screw them.

I'm sure sprint races will suck but I'm interested to see how it will unfold anyway.

Just a thought, perhaps they could apply grid penalties on sprint races so that could be an incentive for drivers to push a bit more in such a situation

Just an even better thought. Why not mixing the two worst qualifying formats ever? Sprint races with lap knockouts. It would be the ultimate gimmick

I’ll read about the sprint race afterwards. Expecting brawn to visit me in the next fewxweeks to personally apologize to every F1 fan

Or, you guys can just not watch it, and let the more optimistic fans enjoy an additional race and a new format being tested. It's weak to hope for failure of something that doesn't impact you negatively. You'll get your main race on Sunday, just tune in.

I haven't found any good info about the format and/or what the reason for it being, I'll just have to see as it unfolds.

We already seen attempts using different types of qualifying during the weekend, because changing the race itself seems to be the issues for some fans. Anything for a change is a good thing imo.

Indycar does double headers and I think it works well there, so does other motorsport series which I find more interesting than F1.

going full Need for Speed (the classic ones with supercars, not those modern with riced tuning). I like it

I believe this could work in F1. Do two separate races of around 45 minutes, with no need to do pit stops and let them race, but for that they cannot save fuel or equipment to work

The lost chance was the reversed grid.

Friday qualifying sets the sunday grid, and the sprint race grid backwards. Win win.

I went to a wedding during Austria 1, based on that example, weddings=SHIT RACE

(I can also remember being at a wedding and missing Hungary 2000 for another example. SHIT RACE)

Obviously, after a good few weeks of intermittent rain, we're now predicting a 30 Degree heatwave for this weekend.

Two things after looking at that schedule.

1. They have FP1 and then Qualy on Friday and then FP2 on Saturday? Are teams allowed to change their cars after qualy? If not, what the hell is the point of FP2?

2. The sprint race is 17 laps???? At least make it half of normal race distance and have every one be on the softest tyre to complete the gimmick. The FIA can't even get that right.

Maybe it will surprise us, but my expectations are incredibly low. You need the softer tyres to provide wear, or else it will likely be a 17 lap parade (unless someone fast is out of position).

At least the Q3 positions should be inverted

And they will still wait 3 laps to activate the drs? They should give everyone drs after the first lap since it's such a short race

I still don´t know if winning the sprint race will count as an official victory. Say Norris qualifies 2nd on Friday and wins the sprint race, will the record books show that he won his first race, or that he scored his first pole position?

they say there'll be no podiums, trophies, anthem or champagne, so it doesn't counts

but will the friday pole count as pole?

I think the most TBK part of this is that it hasn't even happened yet and has already been comprehensively trashed

Official Pole Position will be count for the winner of the Sprint Race.

Friday quaifying only sets the starting grid for the Sprint.
