I feel that Perez was owed that one after Malaysia 2012

Doesn't make it feel any better for Russell though, but hopefully he'll get another shot at it

Albon probably is a very likable individual but honestly you can’t defend him anymore. Perez would also stand there when driving the Red Bull

So happy for Perez!!!! Sad to see him leave. Stroll just no where near Perez today!

f1 seats are too much dominated now by sons of millionaires with less (bought in) talent.

Cool result.

Confirmed that Lewis is the reason Mercedes dominates. #blessed

It's absurd that Russell is consigned to trailing around the back in a Williams.

It's a travesty that Perez doesn't already have a seat for next year.

Stroll on the podium and he was made look like a complete also-run.

Imagine how many jokes about a Mercedes winning we would get if this happened at the start of the season.

Just thinking - why did Mercedes even pit under the safety car? Seemed like there was no need

Even Alonso trailed around in a Minardi. On Niki Lauda in a BRM. Not everyone can step into a contending car straight away like Hamilton.

that's what happens when you take the main Mercedes out of the equation

plus Russell yet finished just one place behind Bottas, he pretty much secured his place into the team, if they don't quit it either

If Red Bull somehow picks Perez I really think Mercedes will see the light and ditch Bottas for Russell.

Incredible race. Gutted for George. To think he may still end up with no points after this after he gets the inevitable penalty/DQ. But Checo and RP deserve that. Kudos to Ocon and Stroll as well after taking those tyres long

Feels strange in that this ramshackle year we've had more races like this crazyness than the standard boring processions

Mugello
Monza
Turkey
Bahrain 1
Bahrain 2

Plus the tyre drama at Silverstone.

Usually we'd only get one race like "this" every season.

Ultimately, Russell stepped into that car and made it look rather easy all weekend. And coupled with the ultra-passive/vanilla Bottas, it's no surprise that #44 continues to easily pad those stats.

Edit - It's kinda pointless saying it's the team as a whole. That's obvious and goes without saying. But notwithstanding Hamilton's fine race craft and tire management skills, the fact is that Mercedes swapped their 'mighty' #1 driver with a young relatively inexperienced driver and were once again on course to score an easy 1-2, had this been a normal race.

You may joke but there's plenty of times that Lewis has called off Merc plans for pit stops, or decided to pit when Merc didn't want to and it has been the difference between winning and losing

Would Lewis have agreed with Merc to pit today? He def would've questioned it....
Maybe he'd have looked after his tyres enough to the point of not needing to?

We'll never know

F1 can be action, emotion, errors and passes. This was an amazing race.
But then, before half an hour it was the same thing like last 7 years. Merc 1-2 with 30sec advantage. We just cheered Russell would win it.

plus Bottas got lucky that Verstappen crashed at the start, otherwise he would be overtaken in the standings either

So after all this evidence you're still going with "it's the car, not the driver?"

Well, it's not. It's the team as a whole. The Driver is a big part of that, as much as people don't want to admit it

Don't get you panties in a bunch over it though
