It's not Austria the knee protest is about, isn't it? So I don't see the issue at not kneeling during Austria's anthem. Austria. Not the USA. We are in Austria. Has Austria widespread issues of police brutality and racism? Is this really such a big deal to not kneel?

I am surely missing something, and I do really get the point of Kaepernick's actions. But people are really quick to judgement here.

It's a difficult one. I agree that it's not about Austria specifically. But it is also a global issue. I understand why people are pissed off, but probably a little bit of an overreaction

The thing is, as a racing driver, you're brought up from a young age to basically do what the sponsors tell you. If some sponsors are shitting bricks over a potential backlash, they're going to put pressure on the drivers, and at the end of the day, they're just young guys who don't want to be fired. Yes, it's selfish, but I understand where they're coming from. I think Leclerc and Verstappen are most likely sincere in what they say and I empathise if they have had pressure put on them to not do it

Sadly I suspect in the end very few drivers will end up taking the knee - Lewis and maybe Bottas, but not sure who else

Wasn't Hamilton between the two lights, first one showing yellow and 2nd one showing clear the moment he passed it? Couldn't see any marshalls on his or Ricciardo's onboard either.

But during the post quali interview he said he saw yellows and data shows he didn't lift. So Red Bull has a good point to protest.

On the video you can see he is ahead of the yellow light so he's in the yellow zone. If he didn't lift it's a clear cut penalty.

You know if it had been tarmaced over there, Bottas wouldn't have fully gone off. He'd have barely been inconvenienced. That's why I prefer grass and gravel.

Why not, video and data showed it's a clear cut penalty.

Have to quote Chris Harris on this: "Slippery slope when people are told that unless they perform a specific gesture they are not acknowledging a problem or respectful of a situation."

Just because you don't post much on social media, or don't do a specific thing, does not make you a bad person.

I agree on that. No one should feel obligated to do it. But it would be good if they could show solidarity with Lewis on this, knowing the discrimination he has faced in his career

Yup. When it comes to racism, ask the guy who has been subjected to it how to support.

Just weird that they have to make statements about it.

Does sound like the stewards wanted to hit the bar early last night.

FIA being FIA

plus those kind of penalties are damn silly, kinda takes away part of the excitment

unless you make the Mercedes start from the back to improve the show

The other stupid thing is that Hamilton literally said in the post-qualifying press conference that he thought Bottas might have gone off and didn't see any yellows.

You'd think setting your fastest lap under yellows would make it invalid, not just a 3 place grid drop
