He has always been preaching about how much he hates plate racing so I think this close call will be the final straw for him. Shame to end your long career this way if that’s the case

Yeah, it's going to be about the extent of those injuries now.

Had to tape it due to other commitments so just saw it.

One of the worst hits I've seen in a long time. Long overdue too in my opinion. These plate races have been dancing with the devil to get someone seriously hurt of killed with this blocking and bullshit.

Any guesses as to what NASCAR's reaction will be as far as rule changes? Given their track record, they're bound to do something when 'Dega rolls around.

I feel like people just drive like idiots nowadays and if people are going to drive like that there isn't much rules changes can do. I mean I guess they can go to rules that make it really hard for the cars to suck up on each other or pass and it'll be like 2000 or 2018 every race but then people still wreck each other.

Another freak accident in this century when the toughness of cars seems to be invulnerable until it doesn't.

That was one mighty escape. A real testament to the construction of the cars.

Not as freak as many would lead you to believe. Here's looking at you Mr. Earnhardt circa 1996 Talladega.

Yeah, I remember that, but without ony other examples for 24 years excluding Bodine in 2000, it's still a freak accident.

I don't follow Nascar all that much anymore but I used to like Newman back when he started. What you just stated is what leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, several times these last years people were flung up and hit by other cars, it was sure that some day the angle was going to be just like this.

I sure hope that "critical but non life threatening" still means being able to talk and walk again. Fuck driving, just let him enjoy a happy life in retirement.

Pretty amazing that a 3400 pound car can be thrown about like toy car being hit in the freakin driver window and he'll probbably pull through. Had the roof been more exposed and Lajoie hit that more so then the side it would been even worse.

Like y'all have said, was just a matter of time. The amount of deliberate contact they make these days is ridiculous.

Personal opinion:

Spoiler:
I honestly think he may have suffered some sort of spinal injury. The hit was right on top of his head, but I hope to be proven wrong.

Finally finished watching the race. Couldn't sleep yesterday due to the excitement from my own 500 and this one. When I finally did I overslept big time and woke-up 40min before my race and this 500 at lap 68. After the race, already got news of Newmans wreck that he was sent to the hospital but no statement on his condition. Risked getting spoilers on the winner and found the infield cam and the 2 replays and the worst sight, when those replays ended, the amount of safety trucks there, OMG. But I didn't know how it happened or when, only that he was on hospital but no statement on his condition.

Watched the race as soon as I got it downloaded. While reading here after any caution so I could read avoiding any spoilers. Managed to keep myself away from reading any news site on Newman condition. It was really nailbiting trying to go trough all the race. Glad the first 2 stages were mostly single-file and ended up soon. Really good race afterward. But boy, reading all those joking comments on Newman's front end without knowing the aftermath was an experience unlike any other. Thank God he's alive. Still soaking in all the emotions from that finish.

8 am here, time to finally go to bed.

Just some notes:
Bowyer after that spin still managed to finish 6th.
The Top 20 has so many underdogs, nice!!!
Vince voice situation was funny and sad at the same time.
I'm very happy to see Hamlin winning another 500. :)
Somehow my fantasy pick, JH Nemechek, had a good run, with the 2nd place at the clash from Dillon, this is a surprisingly good start.

I'll also did my usual box score to keep track of what was happening on the race. Was going to just get the 5 from Nascar fantasy tracked, but decided to put the big names, then the underdogs, and suddenly I was tracking almost every car of the field. Here it is, on the next post.

If that is your "opinion", don't share it. Where you part of the medical team that took care of him? If not, come with confirmed facts or best wishes, not speculations.

Can't believe that has to be said AGAIN.

Nascar have so many drivers that are fun to follow and so many ups and downs, that I got used to always do this to follow the race. Usually not with so many to pick, but this is a special race....

Funny how little selected drivers managed to be in the top 20 at the end. Decided not to score below Top 20 in most of the race cause Fox wasn't showing it and I'm spent now at the finish. Hope you enjoy.

The numbers are the drivers position at that point in race. Line 2 is the lap, line 1 is some extra info about that particular lap. Lines 33 to 37 are to pick the top 2 that weren't one of the drivers up there.

=========================================================

GFr is green flag laps run on before the next caution.
GF is when each green flag run began and ended.
And below are the lap and cause of each caution.

Oh dude fuck right off. This is a bloody racing forum that we share our thoughts and opinions on. He was expressing an opinion (even blind bloody Freddy can come to the same conclusion, as have I), even put it in a spoiler box. He is to the best of my knowledge not sprouting this on twitter or what ever. It is his opinion and he can share it in this forum. It is what practically every one here thinks.

Don't be a God Damn dick.
